Need Advice on How To hook Up TV to Cable box
long story short, my cable box has one white wire which runs from box to wall and black wire from box to power outlet. I need to connect my tv to my cable box. Do i just go out and buy the usual white cable wire with the screwed ends, or do i need additional stuff? I do have a HD box and a HDTV, but i'm more concerned with just getting cable on my tv than doing the fancy stuff.

You need a piece of coaxial cable wire (like the one you already have connecting from the wall to the cable box, that should be screwed into cable "IN" part), and connect one side of it to your cable box to the cable "OUT" part- and the other side to the back of your tv. OR , if you have an av plug laying around just use that. Same way , attach one end to the back of your cable box and the other end to your tv. If you don't do this shit I'm coming over tomorrow to teach you. It kills me that you don't know how.

You need help!!! If you have a new HDTV then you should connect with an HDMI cable. It's an EZ 1 connect cable. the cable installation company should have told you what you need. Good luck.

No no no.
Don't be lazy.
If you have to go out and buy a wire, don't just go buy the coaxial cable (the white cable with the screw ends) just because that's what you know how to do.
If you have an HD television and an HD box, you will be completely missing the potential of your television. Why did you spend the money on an HD television if you're going to watch things in SD (standard def)?
The solution is very simple, and not fancy at all.
Keep the set up the way it is, but buy an HDMI cable instead of a coaxial cable. The HDMI cable will go from your cable box to your TV and that's it. Not complicated at all! It carries both the audio and the video.
A lot of places will try to price gouge you on the wires but you can get them from around $10 - $15 either online, or at B&H Photo on 34th and 9th, among other places.
You just plug the HDMI cable in to the tv and the box and you're all set. If anything you just have to choose the HDMI as the input for your TV.
Done and now you're watching High Definition and getting the image you paid for. -
HDMI, definitely.
You should also take into consideration the source of your audio. If you're running audio through your TV speakers, then HDMI is all you need. If you have a separate amp/tuner with multiple speakers (ie, a home theater system) you'll need to output audio separately to that system. An optical audio cable is a good way to do that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOSLINK -
I'm surprised the cable co did not give you a set of component cables - Time Warner always does (used to?). (These would be a three-cable set Red+Blue+Green for picture, and a two-cable set red+white for audio)
If you have those, and you're not anal, hook those up and you're done. Component is almost as good as HDMI, and virtually bug-free - it always works.
HDMI will give you a slightly/somewhat better picture, but comes hand in hand with 'intelligent' handshakes that vastly complicate things, and make them prone to incompatibilities. By all means try it - I did and I will for every TV I get - but if things don't seem to work right, you might just have to go component anyhow - the Cable Co won't support HDMI so figuring out what is wrong will be between you and the Ouija board.
Whatever you do, please don't pay retail ($40-100) for your cables. Try e.g. www.monoprice.com for reasonable pricing ($5 - $15) on just as good cables. -
Surprisingly, I picked up a low cost HDMI cable at the Apple store (not known for their deals). I think I got it for about $15. Yes, you can find it cheaper on-line, but if you don't feel like waiting, and you're near an Apple retail location, just pop in and pick one up.

thanks guys. I think i'll get a white coaxial cable. (my current tv is teensy so i plan to get a new one in the next few days which might just come with those wires anyway. i just wanted something to get the tv to work so i can watch bravo.lol.)

You could instead be extra daring and get a black coaxial cable. They're the same!
