Rebate checks may be coming to Staten Island property owners

File photoThe city's budget director said Mayor Bloomberg lacks legal authority to stop the property rebate checks from being mailed out.
The check might be in the mail after all.
City Budget Director Mark Page said at a City Council hearing that the mayor doesn't have the legal authority to rescind the promised $400 property tax rebates unless City Council members give the go-ahead.
But even if Mayor Michael Bloomberg doesn't realize that, a group of Council members -- including Vincent Ignizio (R-South Shore) -- plans to file a lawsuit to stop him from canceling the checks.
The suit was authored by former Staten Island Family Court Judge Ralph Porzio.
Some believe Bloomberg never intended to reverse course on the rebate checks but instead sought to use it as leverage to negotiate other budget cuts
....hope they make up their mind before Christmas....lol !!! -
