Anyone take the R to the Q to work?

I do the R to the N sometimes and it takes about 30-35 minutes from 4th to 42nd. I always consider going to Dekalb for the Q but am afrait it may be more crowded than the N - if that's possible.

I take the Q from 7th ave and it's usually about 30-35 to 34th. And its jankity crowded.

I take the R to the Q switching at DeKalb
I'd estimate it to be 25 minutes.
The Q train rules for getting into manhattan. But the schedule is fucked going downtown and back to brooklyn. -
Depends slightly where along 4th Avenue you are getting on the R. If you are getting off at 42nd Street you can also try the N at Atlantic/Pacific or the Q at Dekalb. When I took the R from Union Street and 4th Avenue I would either transfer to the N first at Atlantic/Pacific if it was there/arriving or go one more stop and switch at Dekalb for the Q. It seemed like the N was usually not as crowded as the Q going in either direction. The trip will be quicker in the morning 30-40 minutes and probably 5-10 minutes more in the PM rush.

Thanks everybody! Will be getting on at 4th ave/9th street, and just looking for a viable alternative to the ever-lovely F.

I always play these cards: If there is not an N train at Atlantic/Pacific, or an N train has recently sped through Union St while I was waiting for an R/M train, I keep going to DeKalb and catch the Q. This is successful about 85% of the time. And in my experience, the Q is always less crowded than the N around 8:30am. I would say it takes about 40 min to 42nd street from Union Street.
