New Bakery Open in Clinton Hill!!!
Desserts by Michael Allen is open for business at 1015 Fulton St bet Grand and Downing. They are having their grand opening in about a week. I am kind of sorry I stopped in only because the samples they serve enticed me to buy the delicious pastries my hips certainly didnt need. But damn.....they were good. I had something called a financier....omg....freakin delicious. They had some breads, cookies and muffins. They also have cakes, hot beverages, croissants and their brownies, oh my freaking God, delicious.I am psyched I can get some fresh baked on the premise goodies but I know I am gonna pay for it.I wish them well cause you can surely miss the place with all the construction equipment blocking it.

Wow. I got a great big sourdough bread from there today. Fresh and delicious. For the love of God, Fultonites, let's support this place.
-
We bought some desserts last night, hooooo doggies it was good! I'm going to forget about the diet and buy bigger pants! They're going to have Wi-Fi too, I'll just live there.
-
We bought onion bread, baguettes, sourdough bread, pound cake and almond croissants there this weekend -- all very good.
-
They make regular loaves of bread too!? awesome. I appreciate pastry bakeries, but what I really crave is fresh loaves.
-
the sourdough bread is outstanding
-
Does anyone know the hours? I want to check it out on my way home.
-
I don't think he has hours posted, but he's open on my way home about 6:30 -- 7pm
-
had a couple of their very generous slices of banana bread over the weekend...delicious. i'll be doing all i can to make sure this cute little bakery with kind, friendly staff sticks around for a long time!
-
best...pain au chocolat...in...Brooklyn. Hands down.
-
damn, the brownie is even better! Almost 100 % ganache.
-
tried the sourdough as well - pretty delicious! crusty and chewy, even a day later, reheated.
not a huge fan of the blueberry muffin tho, and the chocolate croissant was not croissant-y. more bread-y than anything. but definitely going to support this place as much as possible. their fresh breads are yum. -
I can't post a review on Yelp!, they don't seem to have a listing, so I'll post it here:
Two of my big wishes in life is to live walking distance to a friendly bar and a good bakery. Since Outpost opened up I’ve gotten half my wish (although they only serve beer and wine). Last week Desserts by Micheal Allen opened at 1015 Fulton Street and I’ve gotten my second wish granted in a big way. This is a family owned place, Micheal and his wife and son work there, it has a pleasant family owned feeling inside. You are greeted by name when you walk in and Micheal is pretty liberal with his samples of hot chocolates and desserts. The shop has four tables looking out on the deconstructed and hopefully, reconstructed Fulton street. It’s a nice place to sit and sample before buying. There is Wi-Fi there, but we didn’t try it, we’re so close to home, we can check our e-mail and walk back if we wanted. We’ve been buying bread most nights on our trip home from the subway . The sourdough is moist and tangy, firm enough to slice into very thin slices with a good bread knife. Paired with a good goat cheese and it’s all you need for lunch. The baguettes are light and airy with a crisp and crumbly crust, perfect with jam or butter. The onion bread seems to be made from the same dough as the baguettes, it’s mild flavor accentuates the fresh onion accent and texture. We have also been gradually, or maybe not so gradually, sampling the sweet side of the menu. Pain au chocolate is as good, or better, than you can get in Paris. The pastry is infused with small airy butter flavored pockets and the chocolate is tempered just right, not crunchy at room temperature, but creamy. The almond croissant, like the pain au chocolate, are light and buttery, but instead of chocolate, it is layered with almond paste, slivered almonds and dusted with powdered sugar. On Saturday, Micheal offered us samples of his fresh baked ruggela, they were little works of art, cinimmon raisons and butter with a coffee cake type topping.
As we eat our way through Micheals menu, the thing that stands out for me is his use of flavors. There’s nothing cloying, or goopy or overwhelming. Everything is balanced, I can taste all the ingredients, and they all work together without clashing. It’s a very thoughtful way of cooking you don’t see much anymore, at least not commercially. I’m am so glad he’s in the neighborhood. -
what a lovely review, kevin_on_putnam. i hope michael gets to read it. you've made me want to go back over there now.

I wish I could post it on Yelp!....

i stopped by this place on sunday! the husband and wife were incredibly friendly and i really felt like i had stopped by a neighbors house to chill out for hot cocoa.
they have wheat-free products (or should i say product, not sure but i definitely know that they have a chocolate cookie that was) and yum brownies.
the fun part about this place is that you can see the baker create his treats while you're there. i think this may be my place to hang out lazily in the neighborhood.
i'm am super excited to have them here in the neighborhood and when i run out of the bread i bought earlier this week, this will be my official place to pick up future loafs : ) -
We picked up a birthday cake for my wife here yesterday -- it was super! highly recommended
-
Anyone know if they're hiring?
-
haha! i thought about asking them, but i walked in and it really didn't look like they needed help.

Kevin - tell Betsy happy birthday!

Thanks, I will! -
here's the link to yelp for the new bake shop :
http://www.yelp.com/biz/michael-allen-desserts-brooklyn
i sent in a request to have it put in yelp's directory but ... i don't know if it's existence can be credited to me. not sure if someone beat me to the punch though. maybe it was Kevin_on_Putnam ; )
anyway, please please post a comment if you feel inclined. i will when i'm not feeling so lazy.
if/when the citysearch people put the dessert shop up then i'll post the link here to. -
Yes, I got the review in, but I'm not sure if it's in Yelp's "directory" I'm a little confused about how Yelp works, apparently, Yelp uses a business directory to look up listings and Micheal Allen wasn't in there. So I found a way to list his bakery and then submit my review.

is it me or why cant i see this place when i am driving by? what are the hours ?
-
^ there are no signs on the place - that's why! it's just kinda like, there...
-
It's directly across the street from the church lot, or if you need a better landmark it's catty corner from Bargain R us. Or just follow your nose when you get to the corner of Fulton and Gates
-
it's actually the corner of fulton and grand. hard to see unless you're walking that street. also, up until a couple of days ago there was all kinds of construction crap blocking the sidewalk so it would be even harder to pick out from a moving car.
-
Got a delicious muffin here today. $2.17 for a muffin! Good lord. But it was delicious.
-
Crap, sorry, thanks for the correction. I always get gates and grand mixed up.
Howdy, Stranger!
