I regret to inform all of you that our friend, bartender, smiling face and all around good guy, sneakyonstmarks, passed. I do not have details, so please don´t ask for them.

Young- 3, 4. She (Eva Luna) and the mamma had come to visit over the summer. He was SO HAPPY cause they live in Switzerland.

...suicide is so hard to understand. Sometimes you can understand the decision if you really knew the person, and know what they had been going through ...and know that nothing they have tried to relieve their pain has worked.
Other times it just makes no sense, and seems to be a irrational overreaction to a temporary event.
I didn't know Sneaky well enough to know whether his pain was permanent or temporary... but may he rest in peace. -

alex/sneaky was a very memorable guy. I knew him as a barkeep at soda and southpaw. last time I saw him was the night before I left the country and we'd made plans for him to visit ecuador (he was already going to visit columbia) and we'd have our paella cookoff here. what a tragedy. -

I would also like to say I am deeply saddened by this news. I didn't get a chance to meet him, but his posts were extremely entertaining and he seemed like a really nice and caring guy. And a good father. Rest in peace, Sneaks, you will be sorely missed.

I only met Sneaky a few times, but he was a truly unique individual.

I too never met him but was incredibly entertained by his posts. He came across online as a charismatic individual. I had hoped to meet him come one Brooklynian happy hour.
He will be missed. -

What a profound loss for all of us. Alex and I became such good friends in high school, mostly because he was the only other kid there who played hacky sack and listened to heavy metal. It was a sad day when he won a contest that let him live in Israel for a year. A whole year without that kid and his special brand of insanity was unthinkable!
We would leave high school everyday and play hacky sack around the corner from New World Coffee on 7th Ave (wow, that WAS a long time ago), play chess on the steps of the old first church or shoot hoops at 321. At night, we would roam 7th Avenue and on more than a few occasions, pretend we were investigative reporters and ask patrons at Ozzie's how they felt about Fidel Castro. No one seemed to know or care that we didn't have press passes, notepads or anything to document these interviews. More likely than not, people knew we were just a couple of obnoxious kids wasting time on a summer night in the slope.
Alex was my willing accomplice during a ska phase that lasted from 1997-1999. We used to hit up Wetlands, The Cooler, Coney Island High and countless other clubs that live on as memories in the band fliers I keep in a manila envelope in my closet. Alex and his awkward skanking and sartorial originality always made going to shows good, special times. He and my brother became roommates around this time so I was very privileged to attend some raucous house parties, but more importantly, see a good friend more often.
I fell out of contact with Alex at some point. Knew he had a baby and saw him wandering around the library at GAP. We caught up, exchanged numbers but fell out of contact. I saw him sometime last year at Chavellas and we again exchanged numbers and planned to go see Cafe Tacuba at Summerstage, just as we did almost 10 years before. Man, do I wish those plans had materialized.
Since I don't peruse Brooklynian quite that often, I never really got to know SneakyonSt.Marks. Maybe if I was a better detective, I would have recognized that patented, cynical wisecracking as belonging to my friend. That many of you got to know him via the message board, his bartending gig at Soda or a chance encounter during one of his solitudinous treks through the streets of Prospect Heights, you are so lucky. You experienced a head to toe original human being in Alex Gomez.
Don't put off going to that show with an old friend. God bless, Alex. -

As someone who lost their dad young it would be nice if those who knew him well could write a nice note to his daughter so that when she is older she may understand how truly loved her dad was.
