Borgo Antico restaurateurs coming to Park Slope
Anyone been to Borgo Antico in Greenwich Village? Owner Giovanni Iovine (pictured, with Diego) and wife Lisa LoBue are opening "Futura Bistro Modern" on 9th St. in Park Slope. Partner in the venture is Davor Petrovic. Seems like Futura will be "affordable eats" and "comfort-fare" that is "strongly influenced by the duo's Argentine and Italian heritage" matched with wines from Italy, France, Argentina and the United States. Grand Opening is Sunday, Oct. 2nd at 6 pm.Futura Bistro Modern | 287 9th Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn, 11215. 718.832.0085.
Hours: 12:00pm-midnight daily; brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

Has anyone been to Futura yet? I have heard great things about the Greenwich Village place but nothing about Futura.

I went to Futura last night and my friend and I were the only ones there. So for atmosphere--well, not the most exciting but I can live without atmosphere. But the food was pretty good and in the end we had a great dessert, a great appetizer, a good meal, decent wine and a reasonable bill. I would go back. It is nice to have a full meal and pay $32 for a change. My only complaint is that it is drafty and we were freezing.

A bunch of DHers went there on Sunday. I felt kind of eh about the food (I had the gnocchi with tomato sauce and smoke mozzarella), but the service was good. Also the bread they gave us at the beginning was stale. Probably wouldn't go back there again... Of course it just opened so maybe it is working out the kinks? -

I think I'll give them another chance. Things weren't perfectly executed, but the menu is fairly ambitious, and they had a number of nice wines in the under $30 category. I liked the fried polenta with mushrooms and sausage appetizer. And although my mixed Argentinian grill (with skirt steak, short ribs, sweetbreads, spicy sausage and blood sausage- they don't call me Carnivore for nothin') was definitely more cooked than I had asked for, it was tasty, and I do recognize that more well done is actually more authentic for that kind of thing. I have to agree with Kensingtonmom about the draft and with RAH about the stale bread. If they make it through the next few months, I bet they'll be better though. -
I haven't tried it yet but if they've been open for 3+ months and still haven't worked out the kinks, I don't think it's going to happen.

Looks yummy to me. Too bad we are losing another local home grown business though. -

True I did like that appetizer and their wines were good. But its far (especially in the winter) and I'm bad about giving places a second chance.
Howdy, Stranger!
