How do you know it's Biscuit?
-
I did some investigative reporting.
called them.
I'm going to check it out. -
You... picked... up... a ...phone? And actually talked to someone?
I thought about doing that once.
The problem is, Flatbush already has one Vegetarian BBQ place. -
True. Well it can become known as the Vegetarian BBQ district.
-
I thought Biscuit was doing really well..... Hmmmm.... good luck Isa!
-
the business may be doing well...although maybe the owner wants to do other things. he is the son of the owners of prospect perk...perhaps he is tired of being just around the corner from mom and dad.
-
I love that place (I know the board's a bit split on that one) - I hope the menu stays the same!
-
I just hope they continue with the monthly pig roast. Now I feel guilty that I haven't been in a while...
-
Much as I like that place, I stopped going after several bad experiences (I just kept getting sick, probably just me). But the way I figured it, if I'm going to do that amount of damage to my arteries, there's better places to do it at and the promise a future quadrupal bypass is worth a subway ride or two.
They used to have the world's best french toast. Stuffed with apple, rolled in peanuts and deep fried, but they changed it to blueberries, dropped the nuts and it became kind off lame, super greasy and sickeningly sweet. Their BBQ sauce is pretty inferior too. The biscuits are okay and the fried chicken occasionally can be awesome. I will be sad to see it go, every neighborhood needs a place like that. Let's hope whatever takes it's place is an improvement. -
Y'all, I have to disagree something fierce:
Sure, the namesakes were oftentimes frigid hockey pucks, but the fried chicken has always been consistently delicious, along with the mac 'n cheese and roasted vegetables. It is good, greasy food: It is not going to change the world.
I love going there because, for $8, two people could eat dinner. Pair that with a bargain-basement pitcher of beer and a stick-to-your-mouth peanut-butter cookie and, woo, it was some heart-slowing goodness.
Frankly, Flatbush needs more restaurants like that. Franny's is for high-rollin' Park Slopers, Bistro St. Marks is overpriced; for me, it's Geido and Biscuit for good cheap meals.
I will get off my soapbox and shut up now. -

I completely agree, though while not even remotely wealthy, I like the option of both. Yeah, I have some complaints about Biscuit, but I have something to gripe about everything, such is the nature of message boards. Your mention of the peanut butter cookies reminded me of one thing they did particularly well: Peanut Butter Pie.
I'll definitely miss that. -
i have never tried their food. but reading what you guys have been writing..
i must try before they are selling that place... -
Although it's a little hot for them now, in the winter the seasoned fries make a regular appearance in my diet. They're Great. mmmmm
Hopefully, whoever buys Bisquit will continue serving certain menu items, isn't that the point behind buying an operating, thriving business? I guess they'd make some changes, but I know next to nothing about the restaurant game. -
Well, one would hope. Look for prices to rise though, that's a given.

Why does El Gran Castillo de Jagua get repeatedly looked over? It's cheap and delicious. Am I the only one who loves the place? -
What about Christie's patties on Flatbush and Sterling? That place ROCKS.
-
I hate to say this, but I totally disagree about Christie's. I'll start by admitting that the only thing I had there is the beef patties, but if your name is "[X's] beef patties" your beef patties had better be good!
As a big beef patty enthusiast, I have to say that Christie's do not measure up. The crust is inconsistant, there is too much filling, and the filling is too liquidy and has a weird aftertaste. There are lots of better patty places around (I like the place on Washington between St. Johns and Sterling a lot). I think Christie's thrives only because of the location and the cool sign. Maybe their other food is better...
Tell me what's good there and I'll give it another try. -
I love their beef patty snuggled between their coco bread. Throw on some hot sauce and GAME ON!!!!!
All in all, I think its a great CHEAP meal. -
I won't disagree about the economy, but I've tried them with and without coco bread there, and I think you can do better for just as cheap.
Also, it's technically in Park Slope. -

Nuh uh. That side of Flatbush is Prizzy Hizzo.

Christie's is south side. Doesn't that make it PS? I think the street itself is the dividing line.

That place is great! Their roasted chicken is delicious! -
El Gran Castillo can be okay, but their dry, stringy Cubans were a turnoff. Can't go wrong with rice and beans, though.
As for Christie's, I used to love me their veggie and chicken patties. But then I tried other patties and realized Christie's sucked. Soggy, gooey, and served up with a side of surly.
Head to Nostrand Avenue for the best damn patties and doubles. You won't be sorry. -

Oh, oh. I thought we were still on Biscuit. Sorry, carry on.

Subject: Veg pattie in coco bread
Veg pattie in coco bread is the only thing to eat at Christies, not counting sweets.
You can eat it on the proper side of Fatbush if you need to.... -

True dat! (or is that on the FORBIDDEN list yet?)
I also like to go to Church Ave if I'm going to travel for patties -
What's with Biscuit's Cajun Catfish? Has anyone tried that? I've been to New Orleans and don't remember Cajun meaning something seasoned in a thick layer of salt and fried (baked or whatever they do to it). I get the BBQ Chicken for the price and edibility. It's alright. The sides are pretty good. The fried chicken was undercooked (red and bloody close to the bone) from my experience. The staff is nice. I would hate to see them close.
I have to say that a great close to PH secret is Kush Cafe. It's Pan French African (or something like that). Great price, great menu, and cool atmosphere. There are always interesting conversations going on and friendly people. And of course the food is incredible: fresh veggies, poultry and meat exotically spiced and sauced. Excellent homemade desserts too. Check it out at Putnam & Fulton (where Cambridge intersects) in Clinton Hill. -

Well, then. Take a step back when you place your order.
Goodnight, everybody!! Try the fried chicken! -

Not in a rub and tug kind of way. -
