Just got this email from Heart of Brooklyn

Spend this weekend in the Heart of Brooklyn and remember to explore the neighborhood! On Saturday, December 6 the Washington Avenue-Prospect Heights Merchant Association (WAPHMA) is inviting the community to Sip & Shop Washington Avenue. Come for holiday music, refreshments and winter cheer! Take advantage of $19.99 specials from 12-6pm at participating stores. From 5-6pm, WAPHMA will celebrate the streaming holiday lights at Udom Thai Restaurant at 661 Washington Avenue, on the corner of St. Mark's Avenue, with live performances. Bring a 'Toys for Tots' donation, and enter a free December 20 raffle for the World's Largest Stocking. You can also hop The HOB Connection from 5-10pm between Target First Saturdays free events at Brooklyn Museum and places to eat, drink and shop in the neighborhood.

  • Too bad Udom is mediocre Thai. At best...
  • hey, no dissing Udom. It's not supposed to be great. It is $9 for an entree. ...it is takeout.

    It is dinner, not dining.
  • I want to like the place. I love Thai. I've been like 3-4 times. Tried a different dish every time. So disappointing. The noodles are like rubber.

The Islands is $9 for an entree. Its takeout.
    And sooooo yummy!

    Anyhoo...go WAPHMA!
  • I'm with Hatemail- Udom sucks. But enough about shitty Thai...

    Go WAPHMA!
  • I'm for supporting almost any business on Washington Ave. ...mediocre or not.

indeed, go WAPHMA. Lots of progress has been made. Lots more progress remains to be achieved.
  • What I like is the bus service they provide. Especially in the cold weather coming it will bring more people to the businesses on Washington and Vanderbilt

    From the HOB website:

Beginning at 5pm, the shuttle waits in the circular drive in front of the main entrance to Brooklyn Museum for fifteen minutes. At 5:15pm, the shuttle leaves the drive, taking a left on Eastern Parkway, down onto Plaza Street East, then onto Vanderbilt Avenue, down to Dean Street, and returns up Washington Avenue to Eastern Parkway. The shuttle stops at all MTA bus stops along the route. The shuttle makes continuous loops throughout the evening, leaving the Museum for the last time at approximately 10pm.

Here is the website - they even make pickups at the Met and Bryant Park and brings you to Brooklyn
They even have them in Red Hook, Williamsburg and Bay Ridge

wn31 is right. why not support mediocrity? washington has mediocre thai (and we all had such hopes!) and mediocre pizza (what does it take, honestly, to make a decent pizza? it ain't rocket science), it could become the cradle of mediocrity. step aside, islands and gen and teddy's--you're trying too hard.

(a message from the washington avenue-prospect heights mediocrity association. support our businesses -- because we're there.)

well said. whadaya want for $9?

(a message from the waphma. . . because, whadaya want for $9?)
  • exactly, Washington Ave now provides places that are decent, and -craziness- a pharmacy. For those who have lived here a while, this is a wonderful change.

True, I would not market the avenue as "Now safer, with average food".
Nor would I market C-Town as "Now IDA, we threw out all the dented cans".

...how about "WAPHMA to PH: We know some of you have money and taste, and will continue to shop elsewhere unless we respond to this information. We are working on it"
  • come for the holiday music, stay for the muggings!
