Pumpkin's Reincarnated as....
Subject: Pumpkin's Reincarnated as....
an all-day cafe, from owners of Bar Toto and Bar Tano.http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/31/48/31_48_gk_tano.html
Sounds like something I'd appreciate... better than another nail spa or sushi place at least.

You have made my day. I love Bar Toto, and I think this section of the slope definitely needs something like this.
On another note, somebody needs to open up a Petite Abeille (sp?) in PS somewhere. I think it would be a huge hit. -
oh this is awesome. I'm always down for more food options on 8th Ave & I love Bar Tano and Bar Toto.
-
Open at 7:00 AM? Fantastic.
-
AWESOME! I live a few doors down!
-
Sweet! And a wine bar too? My prayers have been answered - Brook*vin and now this place too!
Thank you Bacchus! -
Cool!
-
Yes! Yes! Yes!

i know that i'm asking to get reamed here--and really, i'm jazzed about a new cafe--but it's across from ps107. stroller mafia.
-
if there were ever a place for a stroller mafia hangout, wouldn't across from a school be the most appropriate place? And aren't most kids in elementary school too big for strollers?
-
yup. and the strollers are for the younger sibs of the elementary school kids. so it's stroller and baby heaven.
-
The indignation that Christina Cassano expresses in the comments on that article seems well-founded. "Failed" is a harsh word. That said, I walked past that Pumpkin's place many a time and never really got the appeal. I bet this place will be great for that corner, since it'll probably be the closest place that fits this profile for lots of people in WT, as well.
-
i loved the idea of pumpkins. and the store had good merchandising and friendly people. but i couldn't get past the insane prices.
-
Yeah -- I guess maybe I could have like, stepped inside once or twice if I really wanted to be fair about it. I pretty much assumed that would be the case with the prices though.
-
Pumpkins was great. Bulk items could not be beat. Where does Pete get his money for all these food establishments? They will serve La Colombe coffee, not a good sign, not very Italian. It sucks at Parco and at Regular.
-
Scary thought - Stroller Mafia, hyper from the caffeine and fearless from the wine.
I think I'll stick to visiting the place on nights and weekends... -
“This could send shockwaves through the post-drop off kaffee klatsch,” said Edward Lewine, a magazine writer who holds court with several regulars every morning at Ladybird Bakery a block away. “We’ve been at Ladybird for about four years now, so I can’t tell how this new development could play out. Who knows? The group may be riven!”
-
Pffft! Just sprayed my keyboard with coffee - thanks.
If you hadn't already used the projectile vomiting smiley, I would have - high drama in the kaffee klatsch. Heaven help the rest of us. Some people need to get out more..... or get an effing hobby! -
coffee is a hobby

Sure - when you're talking about a passion about different blends, beans, roasting your own etc.... but c'mon, this is a standard cup of Joe at Ladybird bakery....
If only my greatest concern was too many choices about where to go for my coffee fix. -

Agreed--"Mr. Lewine" was speaking not about about roasts and origins; rather, he was referring to his daily pow-wow with his fellow leisure class "Mr. Moms."
I thought that "hobby" used to be limited to upper-middle class suburban moms, but apparently I missed something. -

coffee is art too.

This is great news. I LOVE Bar Toto (was there this morning and at least once a week) and I live on 9th and 8th Ave so this is kinda awesome to me. With all of the places that keep closing, i'm excited to hear that the owners of Toto are doing well enough to keep expanding.

My wife and I were walking by last weekend and the owner was just walking out after giving a tour to a couple people. We told him we were really excited about the opening and he was nice enough to give us a tour.
First off, the place looks INCREDIBLE! There is a HUGE white marble counter top that extends the entire length of the bar, and black wood molding that surrounds the back wall. He said they would be opening in a month, so probably 3 more weeks since this was last weekend. It had a really cool European vintage feel (if that makes any sense).
Howdy, Stranger!
