In the Spirit of the Season. A Free Gift. Maybe

Some people think I'm mean. Well, I'm here, to offer a free gift. I admit it's not for everyone but that's not my problem. I'm dismantling a 10,000 gallon Rosenwach redwood roof tank tomorrow, weather permitting. The staves that are used to form this 20' diameter, 16' high tank are made of CA Redwood. They are 2.25" X 5.5" (actual) by a height that will fit in a freight elevator, probably 8 or 9 ft. There is also a slight taper that allows the plank to fit into a circle. A slight trapezoid.

I'm going to use some of the wood for making raised beds, it beats using that poisonous treated lumber from Home Depot. If you have access to a garden it is the best way to keep the centuries worth of chemicals from leeching into your beefsteaks. A furniture maker friend is going to make some tables. A tenant in the building is going to make steps. Maybe you could make a spice rack for your Mom or your Dad?

The point is, I have a 20 yd. container ready to take all this to a landfill which is a shame so if anybody would like some of this wood I'll hang around to cut pieces to any length.

The small print: This is a one day job. I cannot keep anything after tomorrow afternoon. You will have to drive to 16 Crosby St. across from the Vespa showroom in Soho sometime during the day. I'm guessing early afternoon. The problem I have is no internet to let people know when to show up or even if the weather is going to permit us to take down the tank. If there is only a few of you then I can call, if more than that then someone will have to post something for me. Post first and then we'll PM and work it out.

I'm sorry this is so sudden. Hate to throw any of this away.

  • I'd be interested in one of the tables your friend is going to make from it. I have a wall that I would like to put a rustic, indestructible 8' x 3' table along.

I'd build it myself, but lack access to a table saw. (I've used Park Slope Doors but this would be a big project and they won't let me store stuff there).
  • Whynot_31, I'll let you know, however this guy's clientele is the likes of Martha Stewart etc. I suspect their idea of a rustic table is a little more pricey then most of us. Nevertheless I'll put you down for one. He'll take a check.

Bullyboy, unfortunately the the FDNY gave a 30 day violation to repair the roof and since it wasn't being used it was decided to remove it. Quickly, due to the time of year. It's possible that the carpenter will smell enough money that he'll take most of it. Thanks
