small & VERY expensive. was not impressed, sad to say..

I've always have good experiences at the Flatbush Food Co-op. Their prices are comparable to health food stores, such as Perelandra's in Brooklyn Heights, though it does depend on the item. The staff is friendly and, unlike the Park Slope Food Co-op, you don't have to be a member to shop there. It is a bit cramped, but much less so that PS Food Co-op. Plus, the lines are short and you can enter and leave the place without being confronted with Red-level security. If you're near the 7th Ave. Q train, it's a quick ride to Cortelyou Road.

I am surprise there is another food coop here in Brooklyn. Never heard of this one. Had I known about this one I certaintly would not have wasted so much time with my girlfriend at the Park Slope Food Coop. The last time we went there we spent 1 1/2 fricking hours for a few items.

Hey, if you want to pay heaps of cash for natural foods, there's always Back to the Land or the Union Market or that fancy Key Food on Flatbush. -
The selection at the Flatbush Food Co-op is much better than any of the stores that you mention. Still, I usually go to Perelandra's to pay my "heaps of money". Again, it's about the convenience, not the price. To me, having to wait on line for so long is not worth the savings.

If Flatbush Co-op prices are similar to Back to the Land et al, why trek all the way out to the Flatbush?

why does Key Food have "that fancy" in front of it? i find it sooo much better than Met on Vanderbilt...maybe I'm getting comfortable with a good reliable place to shop, but I feel that key food on flatbush represents the neighborhood improving, so it shouldn't be a surprise.

I've never been inside, but I just mean that they advertise a good selection of natural foods, and that it seems more modern than some of the other Key Foods around here. -
What are the cross streets for the Key Food on Flatbush?

Between Sterling and Park. -
The Key Food on Fifth Ave is even better, also between Park and Sterling.

Yes Pitu I agree 100%. Plus if there is something there that you they don't have you can tell the manager and I guaratee the next time you go there he will have and he keeps ordering it.
And as someone else pointed out before - they play great music while you shop. -

It may be just me, but it's a little too Big Chain grocery store for my tastes. In MN (well, in the TC at least), there are no small grocery stores. All of them are huge - high ceilings, wide aisles and row upon row of box after box... it kinda freaks me out now. The Key on 5th is like a half or third size version of those monstrosities... -
Although I will admit that, if I had a car, the parking lot would make that store mighty appealing!

exactly. I don't shop there often (maybe once every six or nine months) because of the distance from my apartment. the pain-in-the-ass factor is a bit high. -
I think a relentless email campaign aimed at Trader Joe's is in order . . .
I was just in the new store at 14th St/3rd Ave and THAT is what we need in Bklyn.
It'd be a perfect compliment to the PSFCoop. -

As an exception to my above? The only one that's coming to mind is the one out on Radio Drive, and that one's fairly large... smallish for MN, but still pretty large. Nice, yes... still freaks me out a bit. This is going to sound bad, but maybe it's because they're so... sanitized...? Most are so devoid of character... but I'd take no character and Kowalski's/Byerly's quality any day.
Oh, the one on Grand, too... nice... weird... -

Ohhh... obviously, I missed that little detail. D'oh! I got all excited thinking there was a good natural food store on Grand Avenue in PH! -

I wasn't sure if you'd missed it or if you were being snarky (in a good way!). But I, too, would get really excited if there was a good natural foods place on Grand, I'm only a block away! -
"If Flatbush Co-op prices are similar to Back to the Land et al, why trek all the way out to the Flatbush?"
As I stated in the first sentence of my Jan. 18 post, I find the selection at the Flatbush Food Co-op to be better than Back to the Land. Also, the ride to Cortelyou Road on the Q train equals the amount of time that it takes to walk to Back to the Land from my home. Lastly, I love Coryelyou Road and the surrounding area and find shopping a good excuse to visit there. -
Super Stop and Shop on Avenue Y. Kosher aisle holla back.
