Need help setting up DVR recordings
Okay, maybe I'm an idiot, but Time Warner recently traded out my two-year-old cable/DVR box for a new one, and I'm having trouble with the interface.
On the old one, if you set a series up to record you could tell it to record only a particular time slot. That way you don't end up with multiple recordings of shows that air the same episode at 8:00 pm Tuesday then midnight Tuesday then 7:00 pm the next week right before the next episode, etc. I can't figure out how to set the same limit on the new box. Has anyone else? And if not, why would even a terrible company like TWC do away with such a useful function?
Please save me a call to Time Warner customer service hell and let me know, if you have any useful information.
Thanks!

What model is it? Mine is the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300
I'd just try TW, I've had pretty good luck getting them to walk me through doing something like this 1-800-OK-CABLE -

simply hit the record button, then select record series or show. if you select the series, then select first run and repeats or first run only, then channels , then air times.I dont understand why you are having difficulty.

If I read the OP correctly she is having trouble setting to only record on a specific day being able to set the time of the recording is not sufficient. She wants to set the day as well. On my DVR that is a separate menu system -
You're out of luck.
There a number of differences between the old 8300HD box and the new 8300HDC box - most people prefer the old one. Unfortunately TWC is pushing to retire those boxes, since they have to pay royalties on the interface (unlike the new one, which was developed in-house).
On the new box you lose the ability to do time-specific recordings (e.g. 7:43am to 7:51am) - you can only select programs from the guide.
On the series recordings, the new box does not provide the ability to limit which time slots to record. You can say which show, choose 'new only' or 'new and repeat', and how many recordings of the show to keep, but that's it. I gave up on recording the Daily Show because I inevitably ended up with three or more shows recorded each day - when all I wanted was the 11pm slot.
Any advantages to the 8300HDC box? Well, you get two HD On-Demand channels - one pay per view, and one free showcase. TWC is specifically withholding those from the older boxes.
I've got one of each, and I hate the new one. If I wasn't so lazy I'd make weekly treks to the TWC office to try and swap it for one of the old ones (once in a blue moon a Customer Rep will hand one out if you beg nicely). -
I had one of the old TiVo boxes supplied by DirecTV back when they were partners. When it started acting funny I sent for a new one but since their partnership ended they sent me their own brand DVR. It sucked so bad I sent it back. Get a TiVo. The initial cost will be made up in less headaches.

We just got a new HD TV and with it, the new box, and we're having the exact same experience. It looks really nice in HD, but the functionality is horrible. We're finding something new to hate every day.

I had the same problem with trying to record the Daily Show, so I'm sorta glad I'm not the only one. My wife is pissed because when you pause a show the bottom banner does not go away, so if there's text you're trying to see by pausing, you're out of luck.
The weirdness is a bit overwhelming....I wish my old box could have had HD capabilities. And now I find myself wishing FIOS would come here soon. -
There is a simple workaround to make the bottom banner go away when you pause the program. After you hit pause, hit the button to the left of the "select" button, near the top of the remote, which is shaped like an "open parenthesis" (sorry... I'm at my office, and do not have the remote with me to see what the button is called). Hit that button twice, and the bottom banner will disappear.
Howdy, Stranger!
