Help with choosing a Kitty nail cutter

Funny you should ask. I spent an hour at the Veterinary Emergency & Referral Group on Warren ST the other night with my red tabby "Orange Cat" whose nail had grown to long and punctured her pad. Not only did they extract the nail, they cut all her nails and of course didn't charge me. Love those people.
I would say the first pair has a guard maybe, to keep from cutting to much? That would be better given you'll be busy trying to stop the blood from your wounds from staining the afghan you tried to wrap around the cat.

you need something you can grab onto quickly and not get tied up in, so I'd vote against both.
we've got one of these and they're great:

definitely the easiest to use and that means the process will be quicker and less painful for both of you. -

You can also use regular human nail trimmers - they work just fine. I would definitely avoid using the guillotine style (Ultimate Touch product that you listed) - it's too easy to cut into the quick with that type of trimmer.

i have one like the first one pictured, and it works great. i used to use regular nail clippers, but i do find the scissors-type is easier to use than they were and doesn't shatter the nail. fwiw, i cut the nail so that the blades contact the sides of the claw first, not the top and bottom. i know i've read that cutting the top and bottom is less likely to shatter/fray the claw, but i have had the opposite experience.

I ended up using the top one, the smaller scissor like one. I only got about 3 claws done, and a huge hissss. Tonight I'll go back for more  You shall be trimmed my pretty!!
