Anyone with cats know of a cheap spot to get my kitten spayed? I bring her to Park Slope Vets but they quoted me $500.. Way out of my price range! I'm in Prospect heights so somewhere localish would be great! Thanks for any input!

  • You can buy a low cost spay/neuter certificate from Muffin's Pet Connection and go to the participating vet of your choice: www.muffins.org
  • Yes, I did that with my dog, but be aware that those certificates are not all inclusive. There will still be extra fees to pay on top of that.
  • It's not in Brooklyn, but I used to work at the Humane Society on 59th and 2nd in Manhattan and their services are unbelievably reasonable.
  • Animal Care & Control offers low-cost spay/neuter every Monday in Brooklyn. Only $25 for cats.

When I used the Muffin certificate to spay my boycat, the only added expense ended up being some sort of antibiotic or other that ran me about $5, and this was at Animal Kind which is not known for cheapness. Heh. :)
  • A Muffins Certificate can be purchased for $58 for a feline spay from NYC Pet (bring cash) or online at www.muffins.org. I always recommend using the certificate at Prospect Park Veterinary Clinic or Pet Haven. Prospect Park Veterinary Clinic will only make you purchase a $25 post op pain injection (which you would want anyway for your cat to rest comfortably that evening after the spay). I think that Pet Haven only requires a rabies vaccine but you may want to check with them on that. The Muffins Certificate includes the spay and a physical exam. Be sure to mention that you will be using a Muffins Certificate for the spay when you make the appointment and schedule way in advance - these two clinics fill up quickly.

The Humane Society also does inexpensive spays and neuters.
