dumped!
So today I had an appointment with my primary physician who I've been seeing for almost ten years. His receptionist nonchalantly informed me that he is no longer accepting my insurance plan. After I asked to speak with him he came out and confirmed the news. I'm a NYC public school teacher and the vast majority of us use GHI as our plan. When he came out he claimed that they don't compensate him enough. I feel like I've been dumped. He also told me that all of the doctors he knows have dropped GHI as well. I felt GREAT when I left his office. So where are all the teachers(who are sick on a regular basis because parents for many reasons send their sick kids to school) supposed to get treatment? So much for doctors giving a shit about their patients. Everything is about the big dollar.

You're blaming the doctor?! Have you looked at the statement you get from GHI for services rendered? The doctor gets crap from them... remember, your local doctor is paying for his own salary, the salary of all his staff, his various insurance policies both malpractice and general liability... and his own health insurance and potentially that of his employees, the equipment and furniture, supplies and the on and on.
Do you think that $50 GHI gives your doctor is adequate?
Do you think perhaps the insurance company is to blame for not ponying up the cash that's due.
There is A LOT wrong with medicine in this country. But your local generalist is not it. -
I also for the DOE and have GHI. Needless to say I have had about 5 different primary care doctors in the past couple of years. I currently don't have one, so if anyone knows a good one who does take GHI, let us know. Thanks!

Try calling my favorite doctor, Mike Raffinan . He is definitely NOT all about the $$$ and I haven't sent anybody there who doesn't love him. He has offices downtown Manhattan and in PS on 8th near President (I forget the exact street, but not far from Flatbush). I don't know for sure he takes GHI, but I do know he tries to make it easy and affordable whenever possible.

I am one of those who were referred by Flexi and think he is fantastic. He is an extremely intelligent and caring doctor who makes you feel comfortable talking to him. -

Thanks loads Flexi, I'll definitely look your doc up.

We go to Dr. Raff, too. He is awesome.

I sympathize.
Fortunately, our pediatrician did not dump his existing GHI patients when he discontinued GHI. He just stopped taking new GHI patients. He dumped GHI without dumping the patients.
But, on another topic, you complain about teachers falling ill because parents send their kids to school sick. Why, then, do schools repeatedly stress "perfect attendance?" That's an invitation to sending in sick kids. -
Don't worry, Obama will fix everything.

More's the pity. GHI used to be the best. When my dad was sick, he had the best treatment. -
So weird! I need a new GP, as it's been about 7 years and 2 health plans since my last plain ol' annual exam. After a little research, I decided to go with... Dr Raffinan. Small world.

I'm never going to be able to get an appointment with him any more ;-)
