An ode to the crappiness that is Flipsters
Duffy's Sis and I decided we needed booze after a long week, and since it was so crappy on last friday evening we didn't hit our usual spot (the hoff <3 <3) and instead decided to try flipsters.
Lets just say- we had to wave down the bartender multiple times to get refills of what I discovered was actually THREE BUCK CHUCK (which, at half price, was $3.50 a GLASS) and then had to wave down the bartender for our check after spending quite a few hours and quite a few dollars on food and booze. I am semi mortified that the only white wine they sell is $3 chuck and they have the balls to not even put it in a carafe or something (AND it's normally $7 a glass!) As a wino who usually hits the hoff for a delish $3 glass, Im kind of appalled that THIS was their happyhour special (and Duffy's burgers were nothing to write home about.) The music also sucked.
We might return, but only when it's sleeting. And now we know what we're in for.
My review?- LAME!

Ugh. I have no desire at all to go into that place. I didn't go in when it was that Burger Bar too. That place is ripe for a kick ass bar/restaurant.
I love me some Chuck as much as the next girl, but $7/glass is madness -
$3.50 a glass is madness! Duffy and I like to drink just about anything and even we were a bit miffed.
-
So what did we learn? Don't go to a burger place for a glass of wine. In fact I was there the other night and this girl was eating french onion soup with a cosmo. Is this strange to anyone else or just me?
I think the burgers there are pretty great though. -
Wait staff is completely checked out, burgers are good, but STUPID expensive, and really, if you can't put a smidge more effort into your wine than just pulling out the chuck, you just shouldn't serve it.
I really want to like it, but it just kinda sucks. It just seems like no one there cares about any aspect of the place. -

I'm not asking for a superb wine list, but pulling out a bottle of TJs house wine is pretty low class and basically insulting. Plus it speaks to the "value" you're getting- if they charge $7 a glass for $3 bottles of wine, what kind of ingredients are going into that $11 burger? -

I think it's pretty standard for the per glass price to at least cover the wholesale price of the bottle, so they won't lose money if the bottle turns after one glass is served. But $7 for a glass of 3 buck chuck is absurd, and even $3.50 is greedy. -
I totally agree with Carnivore. When the Burger Bar was open my husband was playing there 2 nights a week for months. I learned never to eat there but the liquor was fine and not outrageous and not TJ Chuck. Now it sounds like Flipsters is neither a place to eat or drink. Ashame since the location would seem to be so favorable for a decent place.

I had a craving for a burger the other night and called for delivery at about 5:30 - 6:00. Placed my order and it came to $13 and change. Didn't meet their $15.00 minimum, and therefore didn't place my order. I live right around the corner from them, on 10th between 7/8, so it would have been no biggie to run it right over to me. And I would have tipped the guy $2 for it.
I could have understood if they were busy, etc., but at that hour on a crappy night they should have taken my money, especially in this economy.
So being a glutton for punishment, and having a 3-block radius rule, I went there last night for dinner. Waited at the bar about 7-8 minutes until the waitress came back from her cig break, which was kind of maddening. But I had a delicious lamb burger with shoestring fries and a cream soda. Check was $17, which is really ridiculous.....burger, fries, soda - twenty bucks??? -
Not only was the wine crappy, but like Carmen stated--our service totally sucked. We literally had to keep waving for our bartender to actually come back to the bar and refill our drinks. You would think anyone running a business there would realize by now that keeping the locals happy will only mean repeat business. Hence the love for Hoffs.
Flipsters is sadly yet another crap venture on the corner of 7th Ave & 9th. Seriously is that the site of an ancient burial ground or something? NOTHING seems to work there. -
Just a note about service.
I went in there during a very cold night for a meal and a Pepsi. They ran out of pepsi syrup but let me know it would be a couple minutes. Few minutes later they showed up with a two liter of pepsi to make sure I had pepsi.
Now most restaurants would have just asked me to select something else but I'm glad that the staff came through for me like that - that was really cool of them to do that. -
I'm glad you had a good experience. I don't think the service was bad enough to keep me from coming back, BUT the $3 chuck did it in for me.
-
$3.50 for a glass of Three Buck Chuck for HAPPY HOUR? That shit should be free at Happy Hour. That's like charging $10 for a can of PBR.
-
Sigh. Their wines are not good at all. But can you beat a Maker's Mark Manhattan for $4?
-
I finally took a look at that place while walking by this weekend. I can't believe you guys actually even went in there to check it out. It looked horrible.
I mean, c'mon. Referee uniforms? Really? What is this, Foot Locker? -
I always thought this place was just Brooklyn Burger Bar with a new facade... maybe to fool the health inspectors? Am I wrong?

Drink a friggin beer
