Subject: Merry Christmas what's for Dinner?

Hey everyone, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Usually my family does dinner tonight but I'm spending it in PS and I also had to work today so I'm doing a big duck dinner tomorrow.

So what are my neighbors cooking up?

Also, damn, seeing I'm not cooking till tomorrow, anyone have delivery recommendations for dinner tonight. Any chinese places open :P :santa: :rendeer:

  • I'm thinking about firing up the GF grill and cooking up a burger for me and O. God, that's pathetic.
  • I'm busy baking goodies for tomorrow so hubby just made us a pizza with andouille, mushrooms, and peppers. not exactly holiday fare, but still tasty mmmm
  • will you adopt me? I'm a good kid.
  • Burger sounds great, Beave. I'm thinking comfort food too so we decided to make, get this, TADER TOT NACHOS!

Brown taders then top with whatever sounds good, then toss back in over so finish and melt cheese.

    YUM!
  • I've eaten FOUR Sabretts hot dogs today. With ketchup.

    I have no self-control.

Shisk, can you meet me on the corner with some of your baked goods? (did i mention that I was sick? LOL)
  • Wait a sec...you people keep food in your house that doesn't require microwaving? Seriously - WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE? This isn't Top Chef. Who keeps nachos? Who has salsa? That's weird. I think I might have some ketchup in the fridge. There may or may not be some garlic in there. Fuck. I need to marry a chef. Or an adult.
  • It's all about frozen and canned foods. Frozen bag of tots I bought a while ago because I was hungover but never made. Jar of Salsa Casera (the pico de gallo like stuff) that you can adulterate with a can of green salsa. Go to the bodega and buy cheese and sour cream and you're set!

I feel like I'm back in college :drunken:
  • Cooking a roast tomorrow, so about to find out if La Taq is delivering tonight.
  • We just had a very quiet dinner at Rachel's.

I am supposed to be far away with family tonight and tomorrow and the bf is supposed to be rock climbing tomorrow, but b/c American Airlines was a giant disaster at 4:30 in the morning yesterday, I am here. I picked up some steaks and peppers for us to grill tomorrow and will probably try to do some easy rolls and maybe a cake.

At my folks house, our Christmas eve meal was always take-out pizza while watching "A Christmas Story". And this year was supposed to be the first year in very many years, that we were all together...damn American Airlines.

(I can't begin to describe the chaos there--and after their problems kept me off of my flight, the soonest they offered me a flight where I was going was two days later and less than 24 hours before my return flight :/ so I am keeping my germs here in Brooklyn)
  • Christmas Eve is the traditional fish dinner here at the LTS house. I made pasta with scallops, then some lobster, fried shrimp and mussels in a garlic marinara sauce. We are going to have some champagne while I wrap presents.
  • Ohhhh, man. We tried. We really really tried.

We had a big spread this afternoon because tomorrow we are traveling. Baked ham from Eagle Provisions, mashed potatoes (butter/milk), butternut squash (cinnamon/nutmeg/butter), minestrone. Ice cream. Then we opened presents with the kids, and had cinnamon tea.

Tonight, after packing and corralling all the presents we're bringing, we tried ordering pizza. Called 3 places, and none were open. MenuPages crashed. I wound up taking out some cheeses, slicing up tomatoes with olive oil and sea salt and pepper, and throwing that all at my daughters with assorted crackers. Then we had fruit. Ultimately, better than pizza. But we really really did try.
  • La Taq is closed, but Aunt Suzie's was still delivering as of an hour ago.

We did the same - linguine with clam sauce, baked clams, calmari, shrimp scampi and seared scallops and mussels with garlic and wine sauce. Hubby dressed up as Santa and right now he is out on Underhill probably driving my neighbors crazy with his bell.
  • YOU PEOPLE are making me hungry again.

I've had 5 hot dogs. Must. Stop. Eating. Hot dogs.
  • Fuck. Must. Stop. Eating. Shit. I. Didn't. Really. Cook.
  • Food tally:

breakkie - english muffin w. butter

    lunch - 2 hot dogs

    dinner - 2 hot dogs

    snack - 1 hot dog

Now you all know why I only buy hotdogs 1-2x/year.
  • My dinner choices for the last two days have been a kit kat or a peanut butter sandwich.

On a happier note: 24 hours of A Christmas Story has started! WHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Yes!! I'm watching it too!

    I love that movie.

    "Ooooh fuuuuuuuuudge".

I have requested a snicker bar for my late nite snack, but it ain't getting here till 3 or 4 am.

I cooked some lamb this afternoon in the oven. Cook it at 350 degrees for 4 hours in a shallow pan filled with water almost covering the meat , season it well (lots of cumin and ground cinnamon) and it will come out perfect. So tender,it falls off the bone. Yum.

I cut open some mini club rolls , spread butter on each side then toasted them on a skillet. Then I spread some sour cream mixed with garlic powder all over the inside , finely sliced red onion , then I stuffed them with the lamb pieces that I melted provolone cheese on.The best sandwich ever.

    That was dinner today.

Tomorrow will be waaay better becuz my mom will be the cook. Yeeeeeah baby!! :thumright:
  • okay, so iced orange-cranberry bites, fudgie peanut butter puddles, and eggnog cakes all baked and packed up for tomorrow.

tomorrow's supper consists of baked ziti, meat pies, green bean almondine, roasted asparagus, and spinach salad with pears, cranberries, spiced pecans, and goat cheese.
  • Just got back from dinner at the in-laws.

First we had fried oysters and fried fish.
    Then mandoo.
Then filet mignon au poivre with cognac cream sauce, with potatoes, brussel sprouts, string beans and salad.
For dessert, Mrs. C made an Italian almond cake.

We had a bottle of Veuve with the aps and a bottle of 2000 Quest Margaux (Malbec) with the steak.

I am very content right now.
  • I hate all you people. HATE. Who's coming over to cook for me tomorrow? Who's going drinking with me? Who's taking me to the movies? Goddamnit.
  • Almond cake.....damn , that sounds yummy.

Ooh , my poor beaver. :(

If I was going to be here I'd go to the movies with you.

My rules are rated R for violence not raunchy nudist crap.

I get whatever I want from the concession stand.

    Dinner after.

I might let you get to first base , but you ain't taking me home.
  • I'm not cooking, but I'm doing the movies and drinking thing. Feel free to join.
  • I am making a seitan roulade with chestnut stuffing, collard greens, yams, green beans and portobello mushrooms, wild rice with vegetarian sausage and raw cranberry chipotle sauce. YAY!
  • Pork Loin roll stuffed w/fennel and spices, salmon with a pistachio crust- sides are cranberry relish, sweet potatoes w/pecans and creamed spinach. Tiramisu for dessert.

Thanks Whole Foods!!! (bought it yesterday to have for dinner tonight)
  • We are ordering chinese tonight!
  • Last night-
Fillet mignon with two sauces- one pinot noir reduction with shallots and pistachios and one brandy cream sauce (which is actually New Orleans's restaurant Brennans' recipe as my sisters boyfriend is a chef there and he emailed it to us. I've got it if anyone wants.)
Home-made caeser dressing on a romaine salad (great recipe)
Shrimp scampi with tomatoes and chardonnay sauce
    Cheesecake

    Today-
    Homemade cheddar/pepperoni bread
    Spiral ham with orange glaze
    Sweet/idaho potato mash
    Greenbeans
Crem brule pie with chocolate ganache layer (this is gonna kickass, I also have this recipe if anyone wants.)

    Tonight- wine. xanax. more wine.

keepin it simple this year, we usually do more but my mom, sister and I decided to spend our time making cosmos and watching star trek next gen marathons instead of stressing about foooood.
  • Bro and his wife are making a sumptuous meatloaf ("full of meaty goodness", bro says), with roasted root veggies (sweet potatoes, carrots, beets), mashed potatoes, green beans, and loads of red wine. Kids and I are lounging and doing nothing productive whatsoever. Present overload. Uncles, aunts, grandma all nibbling on crackers and cheeses and Dogfish Head.
  • It all sounds very tasty. I made my Charley Booger Brown some
stew beef to add to her Barking at the moon dry, gave the cat his
kitty kibble (nutro reduced) don't tell him and I had a dish of pasta
with garlic sauce - fast to make. The dog made out the best. Will
celebrate with real cooking when me partner gets back from visiting
her family in Greece which is this Sunday. Now I'm being told by
the dog it's time to roam about the neighborhood. I'm almost
tempted to bring her into Buttermilk and have a seasonal drink
however, I've never been in and they might not welcome an
unknown owner and Charley can't buy the drink on her own!
    Happy holidays everyone.
  • Don't sweat Buttermilk! You can certainly bring Charley in there any time!
