New To Crown Heights
Hi!
I just moved to Sterling and Schenectady. I love many, many aspects of my new apartment, like the yard, the rent, the 3/4 trains.
I don't think the neighbors are going to be the co-presidents of the Me Fan Club. While I can live with this, it does get a little frosty/lonely.
So I turn to the internet to create my OWN community.
I see that a lot of what takes place on this forum is farther over towards Franklin Ave- what's going on further out towards Utica?
I'm loving that there's a forum here. I just wanted to introduce myself and jump right in there.
I live with my partner and three cats, and teach drama to elementary age kids in Harleim when not trying to be friendly to neighbors who look at me like I have three heads.
We were running a group in our old neighborhood, called Dinner Collective, where each member would cook one large meal and put it in a bunch of takeout containers, and then we'd all swap them, so for the price of one meal you'd get as many as there were members present. It was so cool!!! I'd love to start that up again here!
We craft, we read kid's books, we play, we play board games- we're pretty much geeks and kids at heart!
Looking forward to reading and posting and stuff!

Welcome.
I live on the other side of Franklin, and don't have occasion to travel in your direction, so unfortunately I cannot be of much assistance with regard to businesses, happenings, etc in your neck of the woods.
In any case, I think you will find as time passes that some of those people looking at you sideways will indeed turn out to be quite quite amiacable. Just be friendly and people will tend to reciprocate.
There are those who never come around but those aren't the kind of people you want in your life on any level anyway, right? -
Hey--
I'm on Nostrand and St Marks-- I too live with my partner and our two cats, Mila and Jane Fonda
We see your geekdom and raise you to it. Apples to apples, one night, perhaps? -
APPLES TO APPLES?????????????????????????????
Oh, my word.
I have the party box AND the Jewish edition.
Can we be friends?
IM me! I'm ASTORIAUNT. -
Subject: Hi
Hi,
I have been living in Crown Heights since 2002 and love it here. I would like to actual purchase something in the area one day. I am closer to Atlantic Ave. I would love to meet people in the neighborhood also. I am also looking to start a early childhood program next month. -
oh I have 2 cats too lol, no live in partner, but I have a bf. My cats are Boris and Precious.
-
Hi, and welcome! I live over on nostrand off eastern parkway, so I am not really in your neck of the woods either, but I hope you are settled and enjoying the area. I know what you mean about neighbors, but it takes time and once people realize you're here to stay they will open up more. Good luck and take care!
-
Did someone say my name? Yep, I also live just off Schenectady a couple blocks away. No pets or partners though.
I don't like the area all that much since there is so little going on. I plan on moving westward in a few months. -
speaking of cats i took mine to the vet today and racked up an enormous and totally unnecessary bill. Any alternatives in the hood? ( I went to HOPE on Atlantic and Bond)
-
Closest one is on Thompkins and Hancock in Bed-Stuy. Bed Stuy Vetrinarian Clinic is the name. I've gone there with my cats a couple of times. I like it okay. Its good for routine kinds of things. Knock on wood, my guys are pretty hardy, so they go for their annual checkups and not much else.

That's awesome. We need to do the Big Snip soon for our third cat.
Can I just tell you all how much I fucking HATE my neighbors?????
Every night there is what sounds like breaking rocks in a quarry, if that quarry was my ceiling.
There's a constant ear splitting, wall shaking bass line.
They use the stairway as the apt's common space, which I am NOT welcome in, laugh hysterically outside my bedroom door at all hours of the night, glare at me, make comments within earshot about us, and cover up the more pleasant smell of weed with some nasty ass cherry air freshener in the hallway that makes me wanna vomit.
I'm just sayin'.
We're still gonna give them all xmas cookies.
Hey Clayson, where and when for board games? -
so soon. please? I just finished the semester and welcomed in a wholesome stomach flu. I feel like crap. My partner is with her family for the holiday so im just trying to hang in and force fluids on myself.
Once I'm more sociable, we'll set a date, yeah? -

They take muffin certificates, so if you can get your hands on one its definitely worth it.
Sorry to hear about your neighbors. You should take a page from my book and kill 'em with kindness. Start by offering them a better smelling air freshener for the hallway. You'd be surprised how easy it is to run folks off when you are simply being nice to them. -
muffin certificates?

Oh hell no! lol, my neighbors tried that mess and I put it to a end. I ask them one, to respect me and the people in the building. I don't want any trouble but I ask if you not sit in front of my door making noise and smoking because I can hear the noise at all times of the night and the smoke bothers me. They tried to argue and I said, look I am not getting nasty with you and I am not going to argue with you, but I am going to ask you once nicely. If you choose not to listen, fine, then we can do this the hard way. That was the end of that!
If they didn't move I would have spoken to my land lord, took photos. and if that didn't work I would have called the police.
simple! -
well when the invite goes out, please include me, I love to play games. Esp. if any one has a Wii!
-
Ohh.... I want a wii so badly. Maybe... If I can convince my partner that it will help us make friends!!!

Subject: Hello
I just wanted to stop by and say hello as well. I moved to Park pl and Brooklyn with three friends in September. We are all involved in the theatre industry and have two cats, no partners for any of us tho.

Hi there!
I am also new to Crown heights and funny enough, I have a Wii, and with my new studio apartment, no real room to use it. If you want to buy or trade for it send me a PM - I wouldn't mind playing it as well it's just that I would have to play while standing on my bed.
I'm thinking we can work together and everyone wins.
-
awesome!!!! What are you looking for in trade?
We don't have a LOT of space but I don't CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Plan B had a Wii bowling league not too long ago maybe you can start one up at your local bar.
You should come to one of the brooklynian gatherings - they are lots of fun. -
I want to come to a gathering soon!!!
Althea- if you bring the wii to the regiftathon there will be a RIOT!
IT IS MINE DAMN YOU ALL -
I'll try to make it to the giftathon, but RT has dibs either way.

i am relatively new to crown heights as well and i am loving it!!!!i live on the corner of sterling and franklin, close to Homage restaurant...i still go to the city to meet friends because i have not quite put down my roots here as yet....i tried starting a book club in the summer but folks were still too scared to venture over to park and franklin (Homage was kind enough to host). For now i will enjoy their $4 anniversary beers when i am too cold to trek to the city....All u new folks in the area, i can suggest some cool new places (TO EAT, drink)....without having to trek allll the way over to Vanderbilt.....For starters there is Homage (burgers and beer), Bristens (breakfast), A Slice of Brooklyn (Pizza, i sec away from my apt) to name a few....
-
I just moved to crown heights as well. I am on the corner of President and Franklin. Anyone here? What's to do around here, where's this book club? That sounded nice.
-
i also live at park and franklin. i could be down for a book club too..
-
Happy New Year to everyone and Rainbow Thespian welcome to the neighborhood. Not too much to do around Sterling and Schenectady so you will probably be like me and trek on over towards Franklin LOL. A great thing about it is that it is easy to get to the "in" spots and then trek on home to the outer fringes. Here's hoping you enjoy the neighborhood.
-
I'm near Franklin and St.Johns - totally down with the book club idea. Also keen on drinks and socializing...
Howdy, Stranger!
