Happy Hanukkah to all our Jewish friends and/or families.....
  • Hello. Thanks to all for your input on the Hickey's I am looking for. None of your descriptions or locations fit the family I had in mind. The only Duffy's I knew of in the neighborhood was the Funeral Parlor on 9th street. I did not know them as friends but had to go their for viewings and as a kid I delivered meat their from the butcher I worked at.(Palace meat Market accross from Germains.) Speaking of Germains, does anyone know if that beautiful clock that was on the sidewalk in front of the store is still there???

Terry. Did you notice that one of my messages was in RED. I failed several attempts also but found out that if I typed my reply and then HIGHLIGHTED the message before I hit color, red it worked.[color=red]
    :):)
  • Anthony- I know this is closing the barn door after the horse got out but-A friend of mine had a similar problem with plumbing in his kitchen. Outside wall etc:. He opened as much of the wall that he could without wrecking the house and stuffed installation surrounding the pipes against the outside wall. To the best of my knowedge it cured his problem. :)
  • Good Morning Warren,

Hope your holidays were filled with joy and love and everlasting memories.

Wishing you and your wife (What is your wife's name) a very Happy New Year.

    Love,
    Judy
  • HI JUDY,
Thank you for your Holiday wishes. We had a fine Christmas. Went to Church Christmas eve, drove around to see the lights. Christmas Day we went to my Brothers Assisted living facility about 1 hr and 15 minutes from here. Had a group of 10 that celebrated together. (All I drank was an O'Douls). My wife's name is Carol. She is from 13th St Brooklyn where her Mother still resides. Happy New Year :-'

    a day-at-a-time!!!! Right??!!

Well, I did a Mapquest from my 'new' home to Sun City Center, FL.

Blvd and/or N Course Lane (didn't know you're exact location).
    That's a piece of cake.....

Once we are slightly settled (can take years) So I'm not waiting
till I'm settled.... I would like for Frank (my husband) and me to come up someday and take you and your wife to lunch. We'll pick you up wherever you are - and we'll have a fun day. I would be honored if you will give me that gift!

    Hi Terry,
Carols Motheris 93. She has been living in the same house on 13th St since she was 3 years old. 90 years!!!I am sure she is the senior member of her block.:lol:
  • WARREN,
THAT IS COOL GOD BLESS HER 93 YRS OLD. WOW.
    LOVE YA
  • Hi Francesca, Thank your for the kind words and wishes.
We have never been to Venice but have driven passed there to go to friends that used to winter on Marco Island. We live in a gated community in Sun City Center called Kings Point. The entire town is not that big and we are only about 10 minutes from the area you mentioned. I can see I-75 from our front gate.

Some hints on Florida living. DO NOT swim or wade in any lakes. The Alligators own them. Do not believe people when they tell you to get rid of your winter clothing. Most of November and the beginning of December this yesr had AM temperatures in the high 30's to low 40's. This past week has been perfect with am in the 60's and afternoons about 80o. But comes next month we can expect some more cold. It will not last that long and most afternoons will be comfortable but in the morning mostly in January and the first half of February you will need some warm clothing. November really fooled us this year because that is normally one of our best months. If you are buying a home change your residency as soon as possible to be able to qualify for the Florida Homestead Realty Exemption. May be too late for 2009. Check with tax assesor's office. Do NOT challange anyone in a pickup who may cut you off. Some of them think we have the laws of the old west! If you go away in warm weather be sure to keep your A/C turned on to no less then 80o. You do not want to come back and find Mold. Outside of all this it is a great place to live with plenty to do and see....Warren-Old Goat :lol:
  • Hi Warren - thanks for the advice.

I've been running to FLA for most of my life, so I knew I'd end up down there someday. Yes, I did qualify for the Homestead for '08 cause I
did all the 'paperwork' last year, and was a registered voter there. We
actually bought our house in Dec '07; and are just getting ready to move
now. I promise to stay away from the lakes and the gators; and I will
learn to befriend the newts/salamandas - yikes... You're right about
    the winter clothing - I did give away more cloths than I should have;
didn't think I'd be North for this long. And will need some down there.
I'm happy i kept my fleece jackets, my favorite..

Warren, I'll save and heed all the other advice you've given... Thank You.

Also know, the next time you drive down to Marco Island, or want to
take a trip to Venice - please come by. My husband is an excellent
cook and I can be a pretty-good hostess :-' . You have an open
    invite: [email protected]
