  • So I was outside this morning and this guy walked past with a dog on a leash that reminded me SO MUCH of the picture of Skippy. I couldn't get close enough to get a real good look, before the guy was gone. But how common are these kinds of dogs? I don't know that I have ever seen one before and the coincidence left me a little surprised.

If they aren't all that common, maybe it was Skippy. We was on Park Place with an owner who turned to walk up Grand Street. But like I said, this may not be Skippy. I wish I had had more coffee and could have pounced a little quicker to talk to the guy and get a better idea.
  • Things I learned from Skippy:
Never, never, underestimate the strength of a dog, regardless of how playful he looks.
When Skippy joined the family, we already had a female cocker spanish, Sila, who had her reservations about getting close to this rambunctious pup. Feeling sorry for him, I decided to be his playmate and accept his playful bow invitation. I joined him on the floor and wham!
He smacked me with his paw; I think I saw stars.
I never expected him to hit so hard.

The search is not going well, as you can see. We keep posting flyers, checking and listing with any possible pet-searching site we are referred to.
I contact any person who has found a dog that has any similarity, brown or tan, medium size, male dog and extenden the dsearch out of our local area, even out of state.
I search any breed that might resemble him: akita, shiba inu, husky, labrador mix and suddenly I just saw this german shepper resemblance, with different coloring.

We miss him so much. I am amazed how much we learn to love him and how much his abcense is felt in the house.
  • i keep trying to pm this to you but it's not working for some reason:

i saw a dog that closely resembled skippy friday night as i was going out of town. he was tied up outside the bodega on prospect and grand. i did call out to him "skippy!" a few times and got no reaction, so i'm really not sure if it was him, but he did bear a close resemblance. i intended to take a picture of him but he was gone when i came back out. if i see him again i will definitely try to get a photo. however, you may want to stop by the bodega with a photo as they may be able to point u in the direction of the person who had that dog there.

sounds like the same dog I saw. Red leash, perhaps?
i got my camera phone at the ready.

I think so but my memory is foggy sometimes.
  • Last possible sighting update!

The bodega owner did not recognize the dog and would not take or let us put a flyer there. David did not want to put one outside because he thinks it is going to rain later, but he will be back to put one there on the street or in the nearby laundrymat.

Jindos are not very common but their cousins, shiba inus, are a little more common. We have seen at least 3 on underhill. David has only seen one Jindo in Prospect park, that was before he got lost and during his search he was referred to one by Coney Island Ave; he found him and his owner, and another one in Eastern Parkway aroud Bedford, the curious thing is that the woman with him found him about a year earlier aroud the same spot we were told skippy ran away. There is one in the shelter, up for adoption and he is around 6-8 months.

Thank you all for your help in this search.
  • As time passes, the feeling that we might not find Skippy is starting to register in our mind although the heart does not want to accept it.
At this point, we want to believe the opinion that he was found and is being kept by a dog lover who cannot give him up.

We have not stopped posting flyers or going to the shelters, but it is more out of habit at this point.
He had two and a half very good years with us, he was treated as a family member and we just hope that the person who has him loves and treats him well as we did.
I hope Skippy has a backyard to play in and that he gets the empty peanut butter containers - he loves to clean them up and use them as a ball when there is nothing left to lick from them.

We hope you are happy where ever you are Skippy
