dog marrow bones -- where?
i have a dog, i give her marrow bones every now and then
marrow bones are the leg bones of a cow
with the marrow inside -- helps keep her teeth and gums healthy
they're sometimes referred to as soup bones
{but if you say soup bones, some people believe
you're too poor to afford meat and just look away
and stare down at the floor, never looking you in
the eye}
the only reliable marrow bone source{that i know of} has been this
italian butcher shop in Windsor Terrace, on Prospect Park West,
between 15th + 16th streets. two stores down from Farrell's bar
are there any butcher shops that sell marrow bones
that are closer to the Atlantic/Pacific/5th avenue area?
i live on 3rd avenue between Bergen + St Mark's
my preference would be a butcher shop where a portion of the
staff were missing a piece of a thumb or something.
this would be awesome

Oh my - when I clicked, I was thinking that it was a post wherein someone was looking for marrow bones FROM dogs, rather than for them. A couple of pals of mine just went to the markets in Hanoi and saw pretty much that, and I started a-fearing for my hounds!
I wonder if perhaps A&S Pork Store could accommodate you. I'll ask next time I'm in. -
There is a "real" butcher shop on 5th ave between 7th and 8th street, Great Western or something like that. They might be a good bet...

Good luck with Great Western. May be better off if you call ahead and request. Nice guys and helpful, but ask them for anything beyond the handful of cuts of meat the regularly stock and they look at you like you just ordered the breast of gazelle. They'll special order, but *everything* is a special order there, even simple stuff like brisket. -
Actually, given where you are, why not just head west to Staubitz's? Closer to you at least than the butcher in Windsor Terrace (which is very good).

gawd, those are expensive and they shatter too
at the pet store a faux marrow bone is $7.99
at the butcher it's $4 for 4 similar sized bones
and it's fresh. more nutrients
plus, the whole shattering thing is not cool
here. dog vs goat. look:

I have always gotten soup bones at the butcher on 5th Avenue near 8th street-Great Western I believe? I just say "hey-do you have any soup bones for my dog"-and they always oblige.
