  • OK, I've tentatively set the time for 2-5pm on 1/10, although if anyone has other ideas, this isn't set in stone.

We'll plan for the back room at Soda Bar.

Bring any unneeded gifts or other used but potentially trade-worthy items.

As for the charity component, anyone have any ideas? How about the New York Times Neediest Cases?
  • Oh I have a brand new MP3 player that is also a memory stick. But I'll only take it to Soda if somebody actually wants it.
  • would anyone want this?

  • What is that?
  • I'm not really sure. My mother bought it for me. I think it boils and/or poaches eggs. I know for sure it collects dust.
  • are you sure that's not a 1960's hair dryer? My mom had one of those...
  • Anyone interested in the 1998-2005 issues of the New England Journal of Medicine? I'm not bringing this unless someone wants it, but you will need a hand truck or dolly if you want this, since it's a weekly publication.
  • how about my collection of articles from when I wrote for the University at Stony Brook's graduate newspaper? '93 - '96. Any takers?

C'mon, you know you want 'em. You can always PM me if you don't want everyone to know....
  • I think I may also have the 1982-1986 issues of Ranger Rick somewhere. :P
  • yo, i have a suggestion: how 'bout the day before, everyone posts a list of stuff they're (seriously) thinking about bringing. that way we can starting thinking in advance about what items would be worth a walmart-style death stampede. i personally will be building a barricade behind which to hide my much sought-after emerilware.

yo, how about people continue to tease (and beg for) the items in this space from now until Jan 10?
  • I need a french press or coffee maker. anyone have one of those in their closet? I'm ok with those 2 cup metal doohickys that you put on the stovetop if that available...
  • vidro3 wrote: [quote=turtle95]I think that's an awesome idea...I was thinking about requesting a "wine trade" where I can trade the multiple bottles of wine I received but which I don't drink for something I do.
I got a big ass bottle of grey goose i'm willing to trade for a bottle or two of a nice red wine.
Would you be willing to trade it for some bottles of Korean soju? I have a case of 375ml bottles, and I'd be willing to part with a few for a big ass bottle of Grey Goose.

How big is that big ass bottle anyway?

You're not trading. You have to sell your stuff so you can afford to take us all ROLLER SKATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I can offer Mrs. Whynot's rollerskates from when she was 9.
  • I have a nice Ikea desk lamp.

If anyone is interested in any of the items I mentioned, let me know, because I think I won't be able to bring everything. I'll bring anything anyone's interested in.
  • All I got to trade is a big George Foreman grill only used once. I usually use my mini grill.

I will only accept a Super Nintendo console in place of it. Just the console , I have everything else for it.

I am also willing to pimp out a few hot Brooklynians if anyone's interested. With or without their consent.

Well I won't comment on whether I would want a sham-wow or Beaver.
    Nope, won't do it.

    Stop it.

    I won't do it.

    Leave me alone.
  • If this is in the afternoon, there's a conflict with the 8th Annual No Pants! Subway Ride.

    just sayin
  • Jeepers. Would it help if this were a No Pants! swap meet?

I talked with a very nice bartender at Soda this afternoon. They normally charge a fee or require a guarantee that people will purchase certain amount of beverages/food, but might be more lenient about it if we were "sponsored" by a charity.

I'd be cool donating my untaken items. Y'all?

But that means we're giving items, not $. Any creative suggestions about worthy item-needing places? I was going to call Housing Works and then the Salvation Army, in that order, but if anyone has other ideas, shout out.
  • Soda will have plenty of space between 2-5. If we show up --with or without crap-- they'll be delighted to have us.

Anything I bring will not be brought back. ...it will be donated, foisted on some unsuspecting poster, or put in the nearest city trash can.

...if we don't warn them we are coming, the only risk we run is them being understaffed. Let's see how many of us there are by 1/8/09.
  • Hey Whynot, I don't want to question your go-getter spirit, but that wasn't the sense I got from talking with the bartender - who was, I reiterate - really, really nice and full of suggestions. She said that time runs right into happy hour and wouldn't be preferable, as asked if it would be OK to change it to 1-4, especially if we can't promise a certain $ amount being spent or pay something for the space.

This was the result of a cold call, though. Do you know the Soda people?
  • nope. I only know that when I've been there its pretty empty during those times.

..but you are right, I'm not a planner.
