They also make these amazing croutons out of flash-fried rye bread... perfect with a tasty beer!

Being a former resident of that stretch of 3rd Avenue, I'm happy to see places opening up down there, like this place, Bar Tano, the Bell House, etc. I went to Draft Barn once, and it's nice, but a little too pricey to enter my regular bar rotation, especially considering I can go up two blocks to Beer Table and pay the same $$ for a good beer in a nicer atmosphere. I think that a solid, comfortable, nice but cheap neighborhood hangout bar would do better on 3rd Avenue -- like a Commonwealth-Gowanus. But I hope I'm wrong and people come to Draft Barn in droves because, again, I want successful businesses to stick around on 3rd.

In 5 years, if we make it through this Depression, they can start with the overpriced crap on 3rd. Right now is too soon, and they're gonna get stomped for it.

I agree, though. I think there are actually a fair number of young, white artistic and young-professional types moving to 3rd Avenue and the side streets between 3rd and 4th. My building was full of them when I lived down there. My sense is there would be a fairly big audience that would definitely patronize a low-key but moderately hip local bar with a good happy hour. Everyone has to walk up to 5th Avenue for that right now. But that crowd doesn't have the money to blow on $12 imported Belgian beer.. at least not more than once every couple of months. And while I like the Draft Barn, it doesn't seem worth traveling for. Plus it's a huge space; Beer Table might aim for a similarly small niche, but it's a) in a much tonier locale and b) way smaller so it doesn't look depressingly empty if there are only six or so people in there. Plus it's an intimate, cozy space with friendly service; you wouldn't take a date to Draft Barn (if you wanted a second date).
