  • Oh shit. I'm going ROLLER SKATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I want to go rollerskating too!
  • ROLLER SKATING PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Carnie, take us ROLLER SKATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • YES! This must happen!
  • Rollerskating is far. We could just ice skate at the park....
  • Why would a soup kitchen be nice for a 5 and 7 year old?
  • homeowner wrote: Ice skating either at Rock Center, Skyrink (indoors) or Prospect Park
Sony Wonder (that's only a couple of hours at most)
    The Cloisters
    Rock climbing at Chelsea Piers
    Bowling
    Desert at Serendipity
American Girl Place (for Girls) and Forbidden Planet (for boys)
Butterfly exhibit at the museum of Natural history
Liberty Science Center (I think it has reopened)
Go to the top of the Empire State Building
Dave and Busters in Times Square (think Vegas Casino for kids with a bar for the adults that accompany them)

I spend too much time with little people :(

Also, tell your wife to grab Time Out plus any of the neighborhood papers she comes across. They always have kids events listed such as movies, theater, shows, etc.
Excellent suggestions. Love the butterfly exhibit. American Girl is great for lunch also so I've been told.

Dylans Candy Store is fun. Tea at the Plaza.
  • Bronx Zoo.
  • I second the zoo if they haven't gone already. Also A Dumbo trip for Grimaldi's and homemade ice cream next door by the water.
  • The Gazillion Bubble Show. My 9 year old niece loved it and there were kids as young as 3 there

  • Carnivore wrote: The institute of culinary education (recreational division) has some cooking classes geared for kids, and some walking food tours that might be good for some kids if they're interested and mature for their age.

The cooking classes are terrific we did it two years in a row where we made gingerbread houses - the kids loved it!
  • Also, try the Blue Man Group or Stomp as off-Broadway entertainment. For some reason, kids love the drumming on random inanimate objects.
  • -Rangers game
-Do they give tours at Silvercup Studios?
-Have your wife do some research ahead of time and conduct a scavenger hunt in a library
-Sign the kids up for some sort of class (think: how to make something)
  • When I was a kid, they used to have art classes for kids on Saturday mornings at (I think) The Children's Museum.

Here's a link I found with similar stuff:

And here's a link I found with tons of different kids' activities:

We took a 5 year old and a 7 year old to Blueman Group this summer and they LOVED it!

If they're hungry for some delicious soup, duh.
  • I missed the gender, if you listed it. For girls ages 5 & 7 + unlimited money = Build A Bear Workshop, tea party at American Girl Place.

    Ice Skating at Bryant Park.

    Spa Castle in Queens: http://www.nyspacastle.com

The kid-friendly version of Magic Flute plays at the Met one more time this season, on New Years Day -- it's short, like 85 minutes, I think (and it's in english, and directed by Julie Taymor, who did The Lion King). NYC Ballet has The Nutcracker for a bit more (usually ends the first week after new years, I think)
  • Serendipity 3 for a huge frozen hot chocolate
Dylan's Candy Bar for a great candy selection
    Mars 2112 to eat http://www.mars2112.com/about.htm
Second any sporting events (Ranger games are fun)
    Hayden Planetarium
  • Flexichick wrote: Dylan's Candy Bar for a great candy selection
Or Economy Candy on the LES.

This could also be paired with a visit to Guss' Pickles.
  • Cool... this gives me tons of ideas. Thanks everyone!
  • Bring 'em to Flexi's so they can see a NYC squirrel close-up and not moving.

 I can tell this is going to be a fun field trip for the little ones. I can probably round up an authentic NYC "water bug" too.

Squirrel is being disposed of while we type. "Somebody" asked their boyfriend to come get it. It was very "Big" of him :-)
  • Well so much for the kids having fun any fun.
  • Since they have a car service, there's an indoor glow in the dark mini golf course in Connecticut. Friends and I took a trip up there in the spring. Stopped and got steamed burgers on the way up, then amazing pizza in New Haven on the way back home. It was only about a 2 hour drive from the city.
  • rtraindweller wrote: amazing pizza in New Haven
    Frank Pepe's!
  • There's a paintball field in Queens.

  • Carnie's taking us paintballing after ROLLER SKATING!!
  • How about personalized Muppets? I wanted to get one for my dad but they're like $150!!! So cool tho, they make it with your features and everything.
