Anyone have standard cable service?
Hey true believers,
I've been trying to trim the fat a little and have dropped my pay movie channels from my cable service.
I find that I still only watch a fraction of the total channels I have available (no premiums) and was trying to find info on "standard cable" from Time Warner, but they don't seem to post any information about it.
I think they call standard the "Digital Starter Pak" now, as opposed to the "DTValue". You lose some extra channels like Sundance, TCM, and IFC, but I figure if I'm doing Netflix, I can just pick out movies I'd actually watch anyway instead of paying extra for the possibility of something being on.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried this out and what kind of savings it's translated to.
Thanks!

Not sure about Time Warner, but I just made the same move with Cablevision (a plus type package to a standard package). Saved me about $25. I'm sure it's similar with Time Warner.

If you truly want to trim the fat and you have an HD tv, you can get yourself a good indoor HD antenna for about $50 at radio shack. I pick up all the networks in HD. I've used it in two locations in Ft Greene with no problem. It's not always perfect, but its free tv with no bill.

Do you just get local channels though? I'm not really ready to lose Palladium, Cartoon Network HD, Sci Fi HD, VH1 , etc. But I can spare some of the rest of the bloat if I can save $10-$25 a month.
I think I need to phase cable out rather than sacrifice it al at once.
I've heard if you hook up your coax cable to your HD tuner you can get more than just local channels, though I'd still be losing my DVR which I'm very attached to.
