Bad news!!! There has been countless incidents with this Family and the NYPD in the past few years. Everything ranging from Murder, Rape to Arson. The makeshift Church on the first floor is used to skirt Tax Laws and is only used as a hangout.

As I said in that thread, the LeGrand's have always had a odd reputation. They were the kids that your parents never wanted you to play with, but they were fiercely loyal to each other and their friends. If you were friends with any of them and someone messed with you, the entire group of kids had your back. Folks that I know who grew up in the area talked about attending PS 138 where there was a Legrand (or two) in each grade.

Growing up in Bed-Stuy, the nuns were a fixture at the Nostrand Avenue A train station as well as at Times Square and Penn Station for all us kids that commuted by train. They aren't nearly as visible now and seem to keep much more to themselves than they did back in the 80's. That having been said, I wouldn't go to church with them, trust them with my money, or get involved with any of them on more than a hello and goodbye basis.

A New York native, born in 1925, LeGrand was arrested on charges of kidnapping , assault, and firearms possession in 1965. Three years later, police accused him of snatching a 23-year-old woman from her home, assaulting and raping her before she managed to escape. Neither case was prosecuted, but in 1975, LeGrand was convicted of bribery and sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old girl. That same year, along with his 20-year-old son Noconda, LeGrand was convicted of kidnapping and rape ; he drew a sentence of five to 15 years in prison, while his son got off"easy" with an eight-year prison term. Such conduct is not unheard of in New York City, but it is peculiar for the leader of a church. A self-styled holy man, LeGrand had organized St. John's Pentecostal Church of Our Lord a decade earlier, putting down roots in the Crown Heights district of Brooklyn. His headquarters, a four-story townhouse, was occupied by eleven "nuns" and their 47 children, many of them fathered by LeGrand. According to police, LeGrand did most of his recruiting by seduction, impregnating young women, then threatening them or their children if they refused to beg for money on the streets. His black-clad "nuns" were often seen around Grand Central Station, and others had been jailed on misdemeanor charges in New Jersey. It was within the Crown Heights "chapel" that LeGrand had raped his final victim , during August 1974, and authorities suspected that sexual assault was only the tip of the iceberg. In 1966, LeGrand's "church" had purchased a 58-acre spread in the Catskills, near White Sulphur Springs, converting the place to a summer retreat for the faithful. Over the next eight years, state police received steady complaints from the neighbors, alleging child abuse and health violations, wild parties and indiscriminate gunfire. Children from the camp roamed freely through the countryside, begging and stealing, while horses were cruelly beaten and left to starve. Authorities raided the camp in October 1968, seizing drug paraphernalia, photographing clogged toilets and general squalor, but LeGrand's troop returned each summer, without fail, immune to public opinion. Church members Gladys Stewart, 16, and her sister Yvonne, 18, had testified for the prosecution in LeGrand's bribery trial, but they were missing when the D.A. sought to use their testimony in the later rape case. Informants said the girls were dead, dismembered in the Brooklyn "church," with their remains transported to the Catskills for disposal. State police dug up the ranch in mid-December 1975, but they came away empty-handed. Three months later, on March 6, assorted bones and bits of cartilage were found in Briscoe Lake, and Brooklyn raiding parties turned up human bloodstains in the Crown Heights townhouse. By April, state police were confident that Devernon LeGrand had murdered a dozen or more victims, dumping some of them in Briscoe Lake. The list included three wives, two of LeGrand's step-children, the Stewart sisters, and two male employees of his "church." In May 1976, LeGrand was indicted on four counts of murder, including the Stewarts and two of his wives, slain in 1963 and 1970, respectively. The "reverend's" son, 26-year-old Steven LeGrand, was also charged with murdering the Stewart sisters, plus two men employed by his father as pimps. Father and son were convicted together in the Stewart case, on May 7, 1977, and both drew prison terms of 25 years to life.

honestly none of you know the legrandFAMILY now; &nd whatever their family has done in the past does not influence who they are now; i grew up with legrand children as my bestFRIENDS ; every family has problems - you dont all have to make forums about them; YES ! there are some people you should not be friends with but that doesnt mean you should sit here and judqe the whole lot of em;- anqelicaaaa

yeo; i have known them for a while and they have taken me to the "BIG HOUSE" before ; nothing ODE serious pero hoodlums and thieves?! are you talking about the youngLEGRANDS or rather many young people in New York itself? Whores?! i have not met one legrand who sells their body for money but rather seen many other qirls out there willing to do it. please they have been my friend since i was practically born ; dont you think i know them?

:? hello I'm in love with his grandson and gave birth to his great granddaughter 2 years ago...He told me about his grandfather a few months after we started dating and I didn't want to judge him for it..His mother is his daughter and I know they had a really hard childhood ..Nazelon is the sweetest woman I'd ever met I don't think his whole bloodline is infected with something evil...I don't know what to tell my daughter when she gets older about her great grandpa..by the way I 've met some of the legrands, and they were very loving..

By the same token, their are those of the family who desire not to obey civil laws.Just as many others in these final days. I will say this, if we ALL do some family history searching, MANY dark secrets will be revealed. No, I don't agree w/the idea of "purifying" a race. Sounds erily like the same thought that drove the mass enslavement of Africans...In fact, I would have been one of those who were exposed of due to my darker hue. But THANK God for his forgiving mercies and through the blood of Jesus Christ, we all have a chance at salvation and the destruction of generational curses. With regards to your questions about whether or not you should trust the church leaders, allow the holy spirit to lead and guide you. Stay prayed up and in the word. Open your bible daily and drop to your knees and pray for guidance. Also, before any of us throws another stone at the ENTIRE Le Grand family, how about we research our own family secrets. Just sit down and have a little chit chat w/our remaining family elders and then see if it's fair for us to carry the weight of the sins of our fathers....
