kitteh konundrum

one of the other tenants in my building accidentally locked their cat out of their apartment monday night. The cat proceeded to pee on the rug and mark his territory.

The pee has been cleaned up but the problem is that my cat is going bonkerz because of the smell of pee and pheromones. I've febreezed the shit out of the hall and carpet and used other deodorizers and air fresheners but I guess even though the smell is gone to my human nose, my cat still smells it.

How can I get my cat to stop howling and wanting to mark the hallway in retaliation?

  • Is there a pad under the carpet? If so, you might have to lift it to make sure whatever solution you use penetrates all the way. Try Nature's Miracle.
  • First: There's no door to prevent access to the hallway?
    Second: is your cat fixed?
Third: Steam cleaning might be in order and landlord might help with that.
  • good point on the pad and the steam cleaning.

the building is a 3 family house. there are two hallways that connect to the lobby, each has a door. someone must have left the door to the lobby open.
  • You can also saturate the area with vinegar. It'll stink to high heaven, steam clean it once its dry (that'll make it stink again) but should get rid of the cat smell. It's the pad and the floor underneath that you really have to treat.
  • awesome. my little guy is howling like he's gonna turn into a were-cat or something
