Associated Supermarket Myrtle ave

Happy New Year all. This is just a rant. I was tired of being harrassed by my friends for being a lazy Fresh Direct snob. So after coming of the PO on Monday, I decided to pick up some needed things in that supermarket.
I picked up the items I needed mainly Sharons chocolate sorbet. Got home unpacked my bag and realized the sorbet had been OPENED and half of it was eaten!!!
Now I take partial blame because I did not have my glasses on and should have noticed that there was no plastic seal when I picked it up. I was so mad, but I did not feel like walking back over there to return it. Would they have believed me? I just threw it in the compacter.
Also, all of the items were more expensive than what Fresh Direct charged. So, I remain a Fresh Direct snob!!!! LOL
How do you guys rate that supermarket?

  • That is gnarly! However I like that Associated and stopped using Fresh Direct to do my grocery shopping there instead, which I found to be cheaper. Guess it depends on what you're buying? Good beer selection as well.
  • possibly the best beer selection I've ever seen. no exaggeration. I've discovered so many of my favorite beers there.

    it really is immense. not gonna lie what made me the happiest was the cases of Schlitz for 7 and change. the met food around the corner from my apartment now also has an EXCELLENT beer selection. it may even rival that of the Myrtle Associated. But the beers aren't kept cold!
  • That associated is a passable grocery store. Good selection of beer, but that's about the most you can say about it. It's only good in comparison to what's available in the rest of the neighborhood, which is a whole lot of crap.
  • I only shop there in emergency situations... and there are some things I wouldn't feel comfortable buying there at all. I use fresh direct and the farmers market to get my food.
  • Your Associated frozen goods story is much worse than mine but I recently brought home Ciao Bella (Bello?) sorbet whose lid had cracked. I also didn't see this flaw in packaging until I was home -- a tidy 12 blocks away-- so I was not about go back just for a cracked lid.
    Things appeared to be ok so I ate it. I remain alive and well.

  • Let me get this straight:

    You threw away the sorbet instead of going back to Associated and giving them the chance to rectify their mistake, so you have no way of knowing whether they may have not only reimbursed your sorbet but may have also given you another free tub of sorbet, and somehow this is THEIR fault?

  • Where did I say it was all THEIR fault? If you read I said I was partially to blame because I did not notice there was no seal when I picked it up. Maybe they would have reimbursed me, but I did not feel like walking all the way back there.
    This was just my experience. It may make people more aware and check packaging before putting items in their cart. I know I will be.

    I was responding more to the "didn't feel like walking back" situation. Personally, if I've spent money on something and it didn't live up to my expectations, I will DEFINITELY go back to the store. After all, how can they fix it if they don't know it's even a problem in the first place? And if the reason that they don't know it's a problem is because I didn't tell them because I "didn't feel like it", then who's really to blame for their not fixing it?

    And I speak from experience. I once bought a pre-made sandwich from Jive Turkey, and did not notice until I got home that the bread had started to mold. I didn't exactly feel like putting my coat back on and walking back over there, but I still did it anyway, because I wanted my money back. And -- they gave it to me, because they had been made aware of the problem.

    Yes, mistakes happen (and I do check sandwiches more carefully now). But most businesses want the chance to FIX mistakes, and I take that into consideration as well.
  • You are right. They should have been made aware of the problem. A friend said maybe an employee is eating stuff, and the store would have been put on alert had I went back. Hopefully, there won't be a next time.
  • The ice cream at that Associated is always hit or miss because they overload the freezer so its melted half the time.
    They have a similar problem with not properly rotating the produce but seem to be getting better.

    They had actual rabbit in the meat section the other day but I haven't tried it.

  • Of course! Rabbit is delish. I'm surprised Associated had some, but hey, interesting!
  • They also had duck in the freezer this Christmas which was delicious.
