Yet another business to rant about - La Taqueria

I suppose I should have posted this in the Park Slope forum but nothing ever happens over there. Besides I know there are PH'ers sneaking over to PS for food now and then.

They make the best burrito hands down - when they get your order right. But lately they can never seem to get the order straight. If you ask for anything slightly altered from the menu they seem to mess it up. This has happened the last four or five times I have been there. One time they screwed up the guy in front of us and while he was trying to get his fixed they then mixed the 3 or 4 orders behind him (including ours) and we ended up with burrittos nothing like what we had ordered. And of course, when you don't find out 'till your back in PH your not going back to complain. It happened again tonight, but fortunately we now know enough to watch them assemble it so we can correct them on the spot. Just gets tiresome, especially after the typical long wait to get your order filled. (It now seems typical to spend 20 minutes or more in line, even when it's not busy.)

I know these guys don't get paid much and don't speak much english so it's hard to get to angry but still it gets tiresome.

To balance out may negative rant hears a positive one - that little hardware on Flatbush just below St Marks. Those guys are great. it seems like they have everything in the world in there, will immediately ask if you need help and then either show you where it is so you can decide in peace or just get it for you. Cheap too. There merchandise may not be top of the line but it's good enough most of the time.

  • I Love Flatbush Hardware!! Chris, the owner, is a kick-ass locksmith, and I've used his services many times {locked myself out . :oops: }
  • I have had issues with that place during my 8 years living in the P. Heights, but I have boycotted it ever since I found out that they will only deliver to certain locations in the hood, such as the coop on the corner of St. Johns and Underhill but will not go anywhere near Washington as they deem it unsafe. By the way, the food is ok. I lived in Texas for a while and I used to go there more because I was jonesing for Mexican, not because I found the stuff there authentic.
  • I got a cool disposable grill at the hardware store when not even target had one. In 13 years I never had a problem at the Tacqueria and I always have an annoying modified order. I wish they had soy cheese though.

    im not at all trying to sound snarky here, but it seems like maybe if you stuck to the menu, you might have better luck? making requests for different things probably increases their chances of fucking it up tenfold... just an idea, as the statement "i ordered something not on the menu and they messed it up!" has a certain cause-and-effect ring to it, heh :wink:

    unless you mean something simple, like "hold the cheese", then in that case, thats no good at all.
  • i've not had a problem with the people working at taqueria, so much as some of the people in line there, and how they never seem to keep a leash on their spastic children. ;) heaven forbid they should stifle their little creative angels! but that's just me being grumpy yet again.

    if you're looking for a cheeseless entree at taqueria, get their veggie tamales. i'm not sure if they are vegan though. i am sure that they are the best hangover cure i've ever experienced however.

    Actually that is pretty much it. My wife asks them to hold the sour cream and/or yogurt from the "Baja" (you have to tell them which you want so asking them not to use either does not seem like a stretch) and if we don't watch them lately they almost always put one or the other on it. I get the "Original" right off them menu, no alternations. Last month I got it home and it was completely the wrong thing, had both guacomole and sour cream (neither of which are on an "Original"). I threw it away and went around the corner for a take-out pizza from Amorina. Don't know how many times I've order corn ($1 extra) only to get it home and have no corn.

    It seems to me like they lost some good people about six months ago. Also, the reason the line moves so slow is because they do all the restaurant orders in front of the take-out, so if the restaurant is busy the line gets longer and takes a long time.

    We still go there because we like them once in a while. All I'm saying is you have to watch what they are doing and have lot's of time on your hands.
