Water pressure and dirty water issues (please read) — Brooklynian

Water pressure and dirty water issues (please read)

Something from the CCGH news group and out to South Slope, Windsor Terrace and Sunset Park (basically Community Board 7):
Pre-holiday and very chilly greetings,

A belated e-mail, promised last week after CB7's December full board meeting.

Prior to the meeting, starting in mid/late November, CB7 and the newsgroups had been getting complaints and queries into low water pressure and murky water conditions. In the Greenwood Hts. area, it seemed to be from 20th St. to 22nd St., 5th to 7th Aves and 23rd St between 5th/6th Aves. In the South Slope, the conditions were around Prospect Ave to 15th Street, between 4th/5th Aves.

That being said, I need y'all's help to help CB7 track the issue, whether they be localized or a larger systemic issue. With the info, CB7 can goto DEP and other related agencies.

Three questions to answer:

1. Have you experienced low water pressure and/or murky/dirty water recently? (in the past month and even if you were not in the "affected areas")

2. If so, where are you located and for how long? (or is it still going on)

3. Have your neighbors experienced problems who may not be on these list servs?

Thanks for your help in advance, and have a great holiday break and New Year's eve.

Aaron

We have had no issues, but know friends who have...anyone else?

  • We had a short period (maybe two occurrences a day apart) of brownish water from the bathroom tap. It disappeared each time after a couple of minutes of running the faucet. This was last weekend.

    We're in the 40's.
  • from another family in Sunset Park:

We have had occasional brown water appearances. Usually accompanied
by little white pieces of plastic mesh. Very strange! Never lasts
long. I haven't paid enough attention to when it happens, like after
a big rain or something like that.
  • we had problems on New Year's Eve with brown water. I'm in South Slope, Windsor Place
  • Our building (on 21st Street) has experienced murky water for weeks. You really only notice it when the bath tub is full - the water is a green/brown color. There are young children in the building and it's becoming a concern.

Fill up your bath tub to see what the water looks like, and post back.
  • I'm on 19th between 5th and 6th and have experienced low water pressure for a few weeks now. I even called 311 and reported it ... someone from the water dept came around and tested my line and said nothing was wrong and nothing he could do about it.

also, some brown water issues in mid-november but not since then
