Prove me wrong about Palava Hut — Brooklynian

Prove me wrong about Palava Hut

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I've mentioned Palava Hut on Dailyheights a few times, and I don't think anyone has ever responded. But now comes this article in the NY Press:
http://www.nypress.com/19/4/food/joshuambernstein.cfm

So, my question is: Has anyone else on this list even been to Palava Hut? And can anyone set me up with a steady supply of palm wine?

I hate to say it, but if I'm all the way out there, chances are I'll go to White Castle, not Palava Hut. :(

I Loooooooooooove White Castle. Chicken Rings are the best idea ever. Did you try the French Onion Burger they had a while ago? It was damn good.

by the way there is also a White Castle in Fort Green one block over from Willoughby

I've gone to White Castle ... for BRUNCH! I love that joint. never had the French Onion Burger - and I also missed their Garlic thingy. more reasons to go there more often - I need to try their seasonal offerings.

Haven't had the french onion burger, but I love the chicken rings! It's basically the most processed artificial food in existence. Compared to these things, Twinkies are like organic!
  • Has anyone seen the movie "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle"? A must see for White Castle fans!
  • Thread Jack! And yes, chicken rings, particularly after last call, are fantabulous.
  • Okay, so far I have not been proven wrong. In fact, not only has nobody gone to Palava Hut, nobody can even ponder its existence.

Is this the best you can do?

It's definitely part of the "stoner movie" canon.

I've never seen this cinematic gem. hrm.

  • I have it on DVD.
  • So about that Palava Hut...

  • Was Palava Hut featured in a movie? Maybe it would improve their visibility.

At the White Castles in MH they do the scrambled egg patty thing on their breakfast sandwiches, is that the case at this one, too? At WC in MN they crack an egg and fry it on the grill- I used to love going there for breakfast!

    Jalapeno cheeseburgers... mmmmm...

er, it was brunch. we'd missed the breakfast food by like 3 hours. my friend and I shared the gigantor meal for two: 10 steamed cheeseburgers, 2 sides (fries and onion rings) and two diet cokes. cause we're watching out waistlines, etc.
  • Okay, I CLEARLY have to lower my expectations. Has anyone here read the NY Press article?

Mmmm... oh, the meal for two thing reminds me- again, dunno if they do this here, but in MN on valentine's day, the put out tablecloths, candles, etc and you have a personal server! Never experienced it myself, but they advertise it every year!

read it. I'd be up for a DH field trip to the outer edge of our nabe to try some goat in red sauce. mmmm.

    Mmmm... Steam grilled goat...
  • Here's what the NY Press has to say:
The well-spoken proprietor, Remy, can often be found resting her head on a clump of pillows, watching PBS on a tiny color TV. The scene is all grandma’s kitchen, if grandma lived in Nigeria.
    Compare:

So, if you think I will show my face in public with the DH crowd, you're nuts.
  • fine fine fine. I'll just have to venture in myself. hrmph.

Okay, okay, okay, let's do the field trip. I think the best time to go is late on Friday nights, which is soon. I'll just be there at 11pm, and I'll be the one who obviously is not from Nigeria.

wait, will they be serving goat at 11 p.m. or will I just have to settle for the half-forty of guiness?
  • there are 3 establishments about which i've always been curious on that strip of atlantic, being that i see them daily on my trip out to and back from work in east new york: palava hut, ovaltines (or something like that -- a nightclub?), and another resto/nihgtclub called (along the lines of) poknockers with a lot of apostrophes. and, yes, the chipotle-burger whitecastle sign was quite a puzzlement, when it existed. i was beginning to think palava hut was another refrigerator-repair place, so i would be quite curious if interesting food was cooked there. unfortunately, goat is not a food that interests me...if anyone goes, please report!! or, on any of the other places.
  • This place sounds awesome, does anyone know if they deliver?

I refer to Palava Hut, not White Castle. White Castle is similarly awesome. Funny story about my grandma getting the crave on my 'blog at www.awesomeburrito.com, somewhere about halfway down the page I think.

Someone let me know about the delivery thing though.
