2) Prospect Heights: It's so nice when proprietors do the work for us: "I wanted to "tip" you guys off on a new place in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Its called Cornelius and is the collaboration of the folks from Franklin Park, Soda and Le Gamin. The focus is many, many, many whiskeys, bourbons and vodkas and I'm serving up some American comfort small plates. We are opening Monday, January 12th. Please come check it out. Cornelius is at 565 Vanderbilt Ave. at Pacific St." Nice presentation and approach for Brooklyn, go early and brace for crowds. [POST-PLYWOOD]

  • Vanderbilt has become to bars what Smith Street is to restaurants....not terrible, I guess, though I am sick of drunken jerks loudly arguing and laughing as they wobble down our street at midnight and later in the warm weather, when we like to have windows open but not be woken up by these asshats.
  • Yeah, I think that sounds like the place Tolly is opening in the former Noona spot, but I hadn't heard the name before. Definitely looking forward to checking it out.
  • I must admit, I'm not a huge fan of these loud jerkoffs, smoking cigarettes and blabbing til all hours of the night. Just last night I witnessed a small group of yelling hipsters smoking in front of that little no named Bar next to Evelyn car service. I understand the need to smoke, but why cant these yapping assholes have some respect for the residents who live along Vanderbilt?

That bar has a name. It just doesn't have a sign.
  • I hadn't realized that Noona had folded. In any event, I'm always happy to hear of a new bar in our neighborhood. I'll definitely be checking it out.

I hadn't realized that either. Went there once, and....
  • sorry too to hear that noona folded, i loved the food.

and while i'm happy to have something else in that spot i can't say i'm eager for another bar run by the folks who brought us soda.
  • LOL, GOD!
  • hahahaha. heres hoping the place sticks around longer than Half Wine Bar & Lifestyle Shop! 8)
  • Vanderbilt is looking pretty good these days with the new trees, bike lanes, restaurants, bars. When is this action going to creep over to Washington Ave? I don't think there is a bar along Washington from Atlantic up to Eastern Parkway...

is ripple not there any more (st. johns/washington)? i used to live right near there, and that place was always... um... "hopping", for sure! 8)
  • Pretty sure Ripple closed for the last time a while back.

you know, im glad to see that im not the only one who thinks this when i hear those commercials, lol...
  • So I guess Noona is closed, huh? Bummer.

What I want to know is how a bar I've never even heard of opened in the space of a restaurant/bar that I didn't even know had closed...

...and the place across the street and the one across from Beast have been unsuccessfully threatening to open for what seems like years.

    Amen to that!
  • what's opening up in the old NooNa space? This bar? I'm so confused.

yup, folks seem to think it will be some bar named after planet of the apes.

...which may or may not be better than the bar named after form of birth control used by those who become too horny while intoxicated: Plan B

  • All the bars on Vandy are the same, within -/+ 10%

I STILL think that little laundry shack on Grand & Prospect should reinvent itself as a laundromat/lounge... I just want something different...
  • how much bars are there now?

I remember just a few years ago Soda was it.

  • At least five that I can think of...

    Plan B
Beast (though i suppose its half-restaurant)
    Soda
    Barette
    Weather Up

    Plus two wine stores!

With all these places on Van. Do we really need bars on Washington?
A bagel & coffee shop would make a killing.
