Barber Shop — Brooklynian

Barber Shop

Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good barber shop? I went to the place on 7th a little while ago and although it was a classic, old time barber shop, I wasn't that impressed.

I'm looking for a place where I don't have to wait a half hour and the barber actually listens to you before they start cutting.

Thanks in advance for suggestions!

  • My boyfriend likes the shop on 5th ave between 6th and 7h streets but I don't know if its what you're looking for- they give some good fades and tight hairlines though! Have a stroll by- they're cheap too, I think his cut was $10 once and $12 another.
  • I like George's on 11th just around the corner from 5th. The dude is surprisingly steady despite his shaky hands and he seems to remember how I like my hair cut, even though I sometimes go 2+ months without a cut. Probably not the place for a guy with too too discerning stylish taste, but it's also just about the only regular-old-barbershop place that has managed not to make my hair look like I'm 65 years old.

Joe at Josephs Hair Salon 95 (?) 7th ave nr corner union.
It will run you about 25 and you need an appt.

Having been in the neighborhood about 20 years , ive used quite a few places and quite frankly the few extra $$ and the need for an appt is really well worth it. it always looks RIGHT when i walk OUT not needing 3 days to "settle in" the only other way i can get a similar quality cut is to go all the way to astor place.
  • The one on 5th and St. Johns is great, 12 bucks, nice guys.

The place on 7th seems to charge random amounts and when I ask for a trim, they usually run the clippers right across my head.
  • joe at harmony, on 7th close to flatbush. he's great and the shop has a good vibe.
