Sources for finding apartments in Park Slope?
I'm looking for a no-fee 2 bed apartment in Center Slope. Other than Craigslist and the NYT, what are people using to find places around here? I realize there probably isn't some magical secret source for great apartments in the area, but I'm curious if anyone has other resources to suggest? Thanks!

Ok I know you said other than CL, but I really think its your best option for no-fee. I spent about 4 months looking for an apt before I found mine (on CL) and went through every avenue anyone could suggest. CL was still the best.

I've called more than three dozen places so far from CL and I'm getting a little frustrated by the amount of, shall we say, fibbing in the ads. I'm sorry, Bushwick is not "close to" Park Slope, and 3rd Ave is not "prime" Park Slope, nor for that matter is 26th St. Do these people have any shame??! I suppose it's the proverbial needle in the haystack, and I'll keep checking CL - just thought someone might have other suggestions. Thanks.

I literally spent 4 months looking for an apt (casually for 2.5, solid for about 1.5) By solid looking I mean reloading CL all day every workday and spamming emails out to 10 places at a time. I saw a lot of shit BUT i ended up in a rent stabilized apartment that I love with no broker fee. So it IS possible.

slopehead - I know exactly what your talking about. When I place an ad for center park slope, the prospective tenants are actually surprised to see that its in center slope. One girl said she was given an address on church avenue for an apartment listed as being in park slope.
from what I have heard, it seems that 1 out of 6 are actually true to their word and are indeed in center park slope. At least you don't go to visit these area's like some of the other people ive seen...only to find out they are nowhere near park slope.
On a different note....I have a large one bedroom rent stabilized apartment very close to Carmen's place (on 5th). -

Yeah on CL the odds aren't good and most of the goods are odd, but it seems to be the biggest game in town for finding an apartment. I feel sorry for people who don't know the area and get fooled by some of these ads.
Landlord, I'll PM you about the rest. -

NO FEE doesn't exist in the Slope, not yet at least.

My apartment was no fee and only required 1 mo security deposit. I was pretty surprised (and the likes of Duffy's Sis can attest to the lack of crappiness of my place, although I had just moved in when she saw it!)
I don't know if 7th st is considered "center slope" but I do consider it to really BE park slope. -

Here I go where angels fear to tread...center slope = 1st St to 9th St, PPW to 5th Ave

I would only amend that slightly to be Union St to 9th St. and PPW to 5th Ave.
And there are definitely no fee apartments in this area - I've seen a few (which I didn't take for other reasons). So they do exist, maybe not in large quantity though... -

erin - no fee still exists. i rent in central park slope with no fee. i usually go the craigslist route.
.......i am sure that im not the only landlord trying to save the tenant a few bucks.
as stated before however, there are a lot of scammers claiming to rent in park slope when the place is no where near the area. or say that there is no fee but charge 100 people $50 each for an application fee.
carmen - 7st is center slope. past 9 st and your at south slope. -

Yep. No fee does exist, but just very hard to find. My apartment was no fee and also looked at numerous ones in prime park slope. That is, over the course of 3 months.
Agree with everyone else: CL. And yes, about 1/6 ads are true. But you'll get good at spotting the bad posts, and expect the good ones to have to compete to get in. Ask in the email for the cross street.
Also, they do not fib. They lie. Treat lairs accordingly for the sake of everyone looking (IMO). -

Slopehead, I was in the same situation this summer. We saw a ton of places that were advertised by shady brokers who could care less about what you are actually looking for. Ended up getting a no fee just north of Union by trolling the streets looking for signs. I know this isn't the area you're looking in, but can't imagine its much different a few blocks away.
Fortunately, it was during summer and it's much easier to ride bikes up and down the street, but it's not too cold yet! Also, again, not being in the spot you're looking, but saw a place come up on degraw btwn fourth and fith for rent by owner.
GOOD LUCK! -
