Should I stay or should I go now?
Some of you may have noticed my post about this over on the classifieds -- I'm going to have to move soon. And this post isn't meant to repeat that one; I'm just looking for some feedback/advice.
I've just been given the option by my current landlord to stay one month extra. It looks like I may be able to get the money together to go ahead and still do it March 1, but I'm wondering whether April 1 is at all a better date to shoot for in terms of what's available. Does anyone have any sense of whether I might be better able to find a good apartment if I hold off for a month?

in general there is more demand for apts. in the summer months rather than the winter months. More competition means higher prices in the summer.
So if you can move in the winter I think you may be able to get a better deal. How much different one month will make is hard to tell, it may not matter much. -

is that true?
I'd always heard that leases (used to?) expire in NYC in May. I've only personally witnessed a rush in time for back-to-school in the fall. Incoming college/grad students (and I suppose families with small kids move in the summer for school continuity if they can . . . )
o, anecdotes. I don't think it'll make much difference in anything but the weather. If you find something before the end of the month that you actually like, take it. Otherwise, you've got March as padding.
I just saw a 2 bdrm in Sunset Park for $1200 with a friend who is looking, from another friend who is renting it out. If he decides to pass on it I'll pm you - if that's anything like what you're looking for let me know.

Thanks, Pitu. I'm hoping to avoid having to move that far out, but I'm open to whatever I end up having to do.
So it sounds like it's not a huge difference either way if I move this month or next. Maybe I'll just take the extra month to pack! -
Rentjacking sucks. Good luck in your search, apollonia.
