Public safety in Crown Heights

I just moved here and really like this neighborhood, but if I have a reservation it's walking somewhere after 10 or 11. I haven't been in anyway hassled yet but gotten some really weird looks then. Eastern Parkway is great! I haven't ridden the subway home after 11 yet, but I've heard it's not always save even that late. Anyone have an opinion either way?
Sorry to get off your topic
So being new, my main concern is my wife or I having to walk anywhere late, and I'm not talking THAT late. -
Why don't you go to the precinct council meetings in crown heights and talk to some people there
-
James Caldwell, head of the 77th Precinct Community Council, will be speaking at the Crown Heigths North Association's General Meeting on February 15 at Saint Gregorys Church at 6:30PM. He'll be available to answer questions regarding crime in the area.
-
where is that church exactly?
-
St. Gregory's RC is on the corner of St. Johns Place and Brooklyn Avenue.
-
The Community Board meeting is Thursday, Feb 8,2006 at the Brooklyn Children's Museum at 7 or 7:30pm. This is another good meeting to go to.
-
How was the Crown Heigths North Association's General Meeting?
-
The meeting was good. Mr. Caldwell spoke and said a big problem in the neighborhood is that many crimes go unreported. He said many people feel that once a crime has been committed, it' too late for the cops to do anything, and blame the cops for not being there to prevent the crime.
But the police need to know what's going on and where, in order to map patterns so they know what to look for and when. So it's very important to report crimes.
The Association announced that we have completed the necessary procedures for Landmark Designation in Crown Heights and that we expect to be calendared in a matter of weeks. Calandaring means that although the Landmark District is not yet official, it's 'on the calendar' and Landmark District restrictions would be in place. -

I find that the 2/3 4/5 have a lot of people riding them late at night (I'm talking until 2 or 3am) so I've never felt unsafe. I do, however, ususally take the 2/3 rather than the 4/5 if I am coming back to the neighborhood after 11. I just find the walk better -- has nothing to do with the trains. As for walking around late at night I haven't had any problems in the year I have been here. Yes sometimes I have sketchy moments but it has never ammounted to anything.

Thanks I missed. When and where is the next one?
