Please Help Me Find a Couch!!!! — Brooklynian

Please Help Me Find a Couch!!!!

I am just having the most impossible time with this. All I want is a nice microfiber with 2 seats and a chaise and I don't want to pay 3 G for it. I have been to literally every jennifer in the city and they just don't have what I want in stock. Ikea is garbage. Straight from the crate is garbage. Crate and barrel is the bomb but what I want is still nearly 2 G. I feel like I should be able to find this for less. If anyone knows of any good furniture spots I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

  • I had a great experience with Macy's. I bought a beautiful, comfortable sofa marked down to 630.00 from 1000.00. The delivery guys friggin' rock, too.
  • I actually really love my ikea couch. My parents have an idea futon that they've had for over 10 years and its still goin strong and looks good. I wouldn't write it off.

  • Yeah I should go look at Macys in person. Everything I saw online was really expensive though. As for Ikea I just don't like that square uber modern look at all.

  • I found a place that sold via ebay, but were located in the Navy Yard. I think it may be the same people at the brooklyn flea (big uhaul truck)...the selection is better online.
That is, if your willing to go vintage (aka pre-owned).

Wait for the sales! They'll have a President's day one soon. I waited until the Columbus Day sale they had.

  • I am appreciating all the leads. Thank you! I have not had a couch since June and I can't take it anymore. My back is all fucked up from sitting on these little chairs. Its cold outside and I need to lounge in comfort.

  • I actually don't want a sleeper first because they weigh a ton and second because it makes it far too easy for mofos to run up in my crib on extended stay. Been there, done that, moved a sleeper sofa too. Never again.

  • Z galleries on Broadway north of Canal. They have some decent couch stuff. Also, the Door Store (may be the Atlantic store mentioned above) has a place on Atlantic and somewhere west of Union Square.

Near the Door Store around Union Square is West Elm (check the website for prices) and at the nw corner of Union Square is a little futon looking shop that has some decent stuff at decent rates.

I used to live by a Q train so I tended to shop around Union Square a lot and now know too much about what's there for a person who has never lived in Manhattan :)

Carlyle is awesome (one of my couches is from there). Their couches are definitely not cheap, but I've never been to the clearance center, which sound worth checking out. If you want a quality couch for cheap, you could also see if they have any of the floor models for sale. Carlyle does generally sell them at a substantial discount.
