Time Warner Cable? — Brooklynian

Time Warner Cable?

Anyone using Time Warner Roadrunner-or-Earthlink hi speed? Is the price jump from DSL really worth it?

I have DSL in my current apartment but I'm moving and the DSL won't be available there until mid-May. So I'm contemplating getting Cable Internet instead (or at least trying it out until then).

Pros and Cons? Love it or hate it?

Go with the Bird. Faster. Easier. Better customer service. As a new customer you'll probably get discounts.
    go to www.twcnyc.com
  • I never had DSL, and am now in a Cablevision/Optimum Online zone, but I had Time Warner/Roadrunner in my last apartment and it's definitely super fast and convenient. I miss my Roadrunner!

As much as I hate their customer service (or lack thereof) and think that TW is an evil empire, Roadrunner is great! I had Verizon DSL (and I live close to the CO, so it should be super-fast), but RR is much faster

We just moved from out of state and got TW Cable and RR and have been satisfied thus far. It's nice to consolidate utility providers.

We used to have SBC for DSL, RCN for Cable, TiVo for our DVR. Now everything is through TW.

Additionally, once you get your internet access through your cable line, you can get rid of your land line phone service, which saves you money and another monthly bill.
  • I have time warner now. I just got off the phone with them for the 10th time in 5 weeks. It is the worst service!!!!!!
  • Yeah, Roadrunner is pretty good. Just pray you don't need to call tech support. Here's their script:

    1) Reset modem. Doesn't work.

    2) Figure out where someone else's product is involved. Blame that product.

    3) Bye.

Note: If no 3rd party product is involved, reset modem again and then see #3.
  • That is true, the reset modem thing is their solution to almost anything.

    It usually works though.

Yeah, but the thing is this - it's easy to reset the modem by myself. If I'm bothering to actually call tech support, I've already tried the reset-the-modem thing a couple times. Therefore, there is almost no circumstance (other than blind luck) where Roadrunner tech support instructing me to reset the modem would be helpful. I KNOW that they need to try it because it's on their flow chart and there are some folks that can't do it for themselves, etc. The problem is that their bag of tricks after that is virtually non-existent...

I had RoadRunner, but when I dropped cable TV, the price went up. So I called TWC and asked them to switch me to Earthlink, which they did while I was on the phone, and it saved me $10 a month or something. Works great. A few service outages over a few years, but overall excellent & fast.
  • I've had RoadRunner for about 4 yrs now. The service is generally excellent - almost no outages. I've actually found their tech support to be relatively ok... they do always tell you to reset the modem and them remove your router from the chain before they do anything else. However, I think that's reasonable and I usually just tell them right away that I've already tried both of those options.

That said, I'm currently experiencing a maddening problem where my Internet connection goes off for a few seconds, then back on, then off, etc etc. I may have to try out their tech support onemore time...
  • Interesting...during the last week or so by any chance? I've noticed same...
  • We've had the same issue where we lose connectivity for a few seconds ALL the time. It's been very frustrating to be online for the past few weeks. They told us we'll have to have a tech come out and take a look at it, so waiting for that to happen now.
  • I'm going to create a new post for this item - it's something I'm seeing a lot on other message boards.
