Cool...except when you can't get a taxi home to Brooklyn from the city. Bastard taxi drivers, one after the other, denied us a ride. One, after we were already in the cab, suggested that we take a subway instead. I caxlled 311 with their medallion numbers, but was told that they wouldn't do anything unless I was willing to appear in court. Lame.

Bring it, baby. I love big snow storms.
-
Except for the heating bill, cool. It's movies on the couch curled up with the cat today.
Sheesh, I sound like an old maid. -
I quite like it on a Sunday... 'specially since we knew it was coming and got all of our errands out of the way yesterday!
-
Who's got the over/under on the number of days 'til the snow is gone?! Not consulting any weather info, i'm going with 4 days 'til bare sidewalks...

The question that springs closest to mind: which restaurants will deliver this afternoon/evening? I'm wondering how the husband and I will eat anything for dinner otherwise.

(Well, besides Lean Pockets, Boca "chicken" patties or couscous, that is.) -

Anyone who orders delivery today will be burning a lot of karma.

Folks, we called down to the Garden Cafe last night (pre-anniversary) to see if they had cancellation. Bada-bing. The only thing to do is spend money you don't necessarily have on chantrelle mushroom soup and venison filet. We are so lucky to have that restaurant here in the nabe. The owner tells us they are moving back to the PH too.
Anyhow, the snow is cool. I am a Southerner and my hatred of snow was how trapped you are in the South during a storm. Don't feel shut in at all!
If you know an elderly or disabled neighbor: Check on them! -
Le Gamin is also open today, I just called to make sure so I can get a hot chocolate after I shovel!

it's not cool cause i don't get to go to the park. there's no sun, and i'm dreading this lovely snow turning to ice and the bruised tuchuses that will result from slipping on said ice.
it's cool cause i have no excuses for getting the apt cleaned up, right after i finish reading all about diana taylor in the NYT... -

You'd better tip BIG. This is a punch-in-the-junk offense. -

I nominate SJE as the number one corporate shill.......she always promoting Le Gamin.

Hey! I have no ties to that place except when everything is closed, and it's open and serving in a blizzard, I'm going to say so! I do eat there numerous times a week, though....

me too, so do most people on these boards, live near places of buniness but do not advertise for them. -
Super cool.
Here's the question: are they going to try that "world's biggest snowball fight" in Prospect Park today or what?

I'm thinking about it. Is the thing happening? If so, what part of the park? -

I don't know what part of the park, but I am feeling adventurous today. -
man I am so bummed to be missing this. I heart snow.

1) I love Le Gamin and Freddy's. I recommend that everybody spend money there and support local businesses overall. While I'm at it, Red Lipstick is super cool too, and if you need some nifty new duds, check it out. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, lovemynabe.

2) The World's Biggest Snowball fight IS NOT HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND. I'm shouting in all caps like an AOL twerp because it's very important that a bunch of people don't show up and jeopardize the actual event, for which insurance, permits, and other bureaucracy have not yet been dealt with. If you want to be kept up to date, join the mailing list. As the guy organizing the event aptly pointed out, if a large group of people shows up without permits, the 78th precinct will move in very quickly to deal with them. No offense on the cops' part, but obviously an unorganized mob could get ugly really quickly...
Back to blizzard bliss... -

Seriously, this board is almost nothing but recommendations from residents. Wing Wagon? El Carneviento? Geido? Gen? etc...Anyone who knows me knows I'm a tireless promoter of ALL businesses in our hood. So you don't like it? Too bad! Maybe you should change your tag to "shutupaboutmynabe". :P -

33 years here.
There is nothing inherently wrong in expressing your likeness for a particular buniness, but when it becomes incesant.....it raises questions, that's all.
SJE worte:
Gamin has always had it, and the coffee is the strongest in the heights. Plus, they're open from 8am to 10pm, and don't mind you surfing/working there..
Le Gamin has started a prix fix menu Monday thru Thursday for $20, AND THEY NOW DELIVER! Yes, I meant to yell, I'm pretty happy about it.
We're having a baby shower for a friend at Le Gamin on Vanderbilt in January, with wine and desserts. The cost seems reasonable to me {call for a quote}, and they're very kid friendly. I think we're g ... -
So what?
-
If SJE had a financial tie to a business she was on about, then it would be different. She doesn't, she's just a small businessperson who recognizes the need to promote others in the nabe. It's harmless. Use of the word "shill" would only be appropriate if she were making money out of the situation. She's not making ad hominem attacks (like I did--sorry for the moment of weakness), and she doesn't spam or troll every thread raving on about local biz. No harm, no foul, in my opinion.
-
Alright, I'm going out to play in the snow, Guiness or no!
I'm so glad that I stocked up on Jaques Torres "wicked" hot chocolate mix last time I was in DUMBO. -
Carnivore, You're shilling for Jacque Torres! :P wish I had some wicked hot chocolate, oh wait, Le Gamin can make me some! {Sorry, couldn't resist.}
My last post was about how much I love Gen, also Delicacies, Yaba, Laundry King, etc. Read ALL of them if you really want to get your knickers in a twist. -
That was really mean. To insult someone and then take the time to review their past posts and repost them.
-
If you haven't gotten out yet today, hurry. It's beautiful.
-
I just learned that a snowball fight is a really good way to meet your neighbors.
-
I guess none of you have to shovel. My husband and I are doing hopefully the third and final shift right now.
At least I am getting a workout.
Howdy, Stranger!
