I don't want this to all be about race. Cafeaulait happens to know I'm white only because of my photo. If I didn't have a photo posted, or if it'd been clear that I was black and not white, what would the reaction have been from him/her?
For me, it's about 4 guys (them) against one girl (me). That's a scary thing no matter what race, no matter what neighborhood. -
It was assault - regardless of race or even your size or that you were outnumbered.
I'd call the police and report it. You might not be able to identify them, but maybe somebody will connect the dots if they keep doing this stuff -
I talked to them earlier today. They said I should come in and file so a friend is taking me in a little bit. I figure, if they base police coverage on statistics, I should be a statistic. Especially when budgets are about to be cut and the mayor is saying that police force may be scaled back. Coverage should stay where it is needed.

arrbecca, I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I have to mention, though, that IF the attackers were Black and IF you are, in fact, White, this might be a hate crime and not so random after all. Either way, I think you should report it. The police in the area should know that there are kids going around assaulting people - the next time it could be an elderly person.

the reason cafe does not want this incident reported is not because he/she thinks some "innocent black kids will be picked out" - it's because he/she has this twisted sense the the black community is entitled and they that it is somehow "open season" on the whites and every other race that has "invaded their neighborhoods". cafe you have a very serious reality issue and i strongly suggest counseling, anger management and heavy medication. -

I will report it because I don't want police coverage to slide when budgets get cut and I will say that a black kid punched me because a black kid did punch me. That is a fact. What else am I supposed to say? An act of violence was inflicted upon me. I will say that 4 thin black kids approx age 15-17yo passed me at the corner of Throop and Jefferson at 8pm Saturday night and after they passed me one came back up on the other side of me and punched me in the face and then they ran off, turning onto the next side street down (I forget the name of the street) because that is what happend. Fact. -

My parents are immigrants. The only person they forced over here was my brother. He was six months old at the time so he didn't get a say.
