BROOKLYNIAN BRIDE

chaplin'smom may I ask your handle on indiebride? I too am obsessed (still even though I am bride no more).
I used phoebe as well, but just for the bouquets and arrangement on the escort card table. If you like I can send you the link to my photos so you can see her work.
What type of veil are you looking for? I got a birdcage veil from Artikal. Holly, the woman who makes them has a small studio in the East Village and does most of her work online, but you can go there to try them on. I believe she also makes traditional veils. Her work is beautiful and I highly recommend her. -

chaplin'smom, my brother used those invites for his wedding a year ago, from lion in the sun-- they're very cute and easy

For cleaning I would definitely recommend Bridge Street Cleaners. They also do a great job at preserving your gown. I have had many business and a few evening wear pieces altered there and they have done a great job. I cannot say how they would do on a wedding dress but I see many people in there with their dresses. -

Wonderful thanks Stacey... would you recommend cleaning before or after alterations? Clearly I'm new at this... :-)

Anyone care to share any advice on where to rent tables/chairs? This will be a Manhattan wedding, but I'm sure any vendors you know of will go there.
Thanks,

They are the Best in the industry, and have
an amazing Green facility in the Navy Yard.
They will customize your order with no extra charge (i.e. green garment bags, no excess paper, biodegradable wraps)
they have a team of skilled professionals. -
if I know you, and you want to invite me, please make sure I know your wedding date. I LOVE weddings. no shit. I get drunk, I make out with the single folks, I dance, I eat too much. weddings are fun! plus, my friends who generally seem more together than me are all wigged out and I get to give their parents xanax to calm them down, etc. wait, have I said too much?
I have fun at weddings. that's all. -
Greetings,
I would like to update my info about my Loft space availability.
The loft is 2000 square feet of space that has recently been renovated and can be used for listening parties (for musicians) {Last Spring and summer we had many celebrity listening events}
Even though the space has been renovated it is still pretty raw and industrial (we like that look)
The out door deck is facing the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan + Williamsburg Bridge, Empire state building and the East River.
This space is also great for Small wedding Ceremonies, and Photo Shoots.
For bookings + pricing info and photos

I see a lot of recommendations for Bridge cleaners elsewhere, and I am actually even more pleased to see them recommended here. I was wondering if anyone had alterations done by them? Any beaded gown alterations?
I got 2 gowns this weekend at the Boston Running of the Brides (total mayhem btw.). Both need taking in, one more drastically than the other. Of course, the one that requires more work is the one I really want to wear.

I'm just wondering- what kind of prices you're seeing for photography? I'm just starting to look, there's one guy that I REALLY really like, but I want to make sure I'm not paying out the nose....
He's offering:
7 hours unlimited- with all the black and white and effects
website hosting/cd of photos/online slideshow set to music
bound linen proof book (not the actual REAL book- that's a LOT of extra)
2nd photographer for $350
All for $1999 (not including his travel fee- which he would discount, cause he loves coming to NY- he seems really nice)
Whatchu think? Is that a lot? With this economy- you think I could get away with bargaining him down? -

That sounds pretty good to me. I paid about 1500 for the same thing in 1993.

Just a few tips: make sure everything he promises is in writing. Make sure that the contract states that he personally will be taking the pictures, does his fee include pictures of you before the ceremony with your family? Does it include the thank you photos? Will you have to go to him for copies of photos or will he give you permission to make copies.
(Oh and will he do LOLZ CAT captions for Dave? -sorry couldn't resist
)
Just an FYI some of my favorite pictures from my wedding came from the throw-away cameras we left on the table for people to take pictures with.
I have to say that even though I love my pictures I watch my wedding tape more than I look at the pictures. -
So- I bought a dress over the weekend and now I'm having buyer's remorse. It's a beautiful dress, but I hate hate HATED trying on something that I had to visualize fitting and paying a ton of money for. (well, a ton considering I'm wearing it once). Since the wedding is close (10/31), I had to make a decision since it takes so long for delivery.
I bought it at a little boutique in Dumbo. I'm fairly certain that I can't turn back now, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried? -

I'm not sure what you mean. Did you purchase it and now don't want it or you are not sure you like the fit of it.

If you have not altered it I cannot see why they wouldn't take it back Although I suggest you hold on to it and try on others so you have something to compare to. I think you have enough time to order another one. I think the usual time to get it is about 6 weeks.
I know its overpriced but for trying on dresses Kleinfelds is worth it. Maybe try some on there to see if the one you purchased is the one for you. -

Did you use a credit card? You might have some protection there for returns.

I'm happy to say Future Wife and I are almost done w/ all our planning. The last thing, I think, are the Save the Date cards. Anyone have an original, but affordable (there's the catch, of course) idea for a Save the Date? We'd really like to spend less than $1 per card.
Thanks,

Recently I have been getting these cute "save the date" magnets for the fridge. Some have had a cute heart shape and some have been just business card sizes similar to this
Thanks,

I like the magnets because my save the date cards go on my fridge anyway.
Good luck. -

Ok- so in answer to your questions: I paid with my debit card, so yes, protection of sorts- I called my bank and they said they could reverse the charge, but that they would open up a claim (basically so the vendor could try to fight it).
So- what happened was I tried on this dress that everyone convinced me I looked beautiful in. I had to prerequisites when I walked in: I didn't want strapless and I didn't want a lot of bling on my boobs. What did I but? Strapless which they told me they could put straps on, and TONS of freakin' bling on my chest ("lookie! WCW's tits got married today!"). So, after simmering for 3 days I realized I HATED it.
I called them last week and got blown off by one of the sales girls. She said it was the holidays and they wouldn't be getting back to me right away. I figured this was on them and waited it out. Finally, this past Saturday, the seamstress called me (the only one there I actually liked), and we talked, she was extremely understanding, acknowledged the fact that it was a major purchase, and that she wanted to personally help me find a dress I would love. So, our schedules are clashing for the next 3 weeks, but I'm giving them another shot. As of right now, they said the other dress would take 5 months (!!!) to come in, so I think its safe to say that that'll get canceled (when I asked the seamstress, she didn't make it seem like it would be a big deal to cancel the order, that the owner wanted me to be happy).
SO! We shall see.....
ANTHONY: this woman's got the cheapest save the dates that I found online:

Her problem is her turn around. She takes a few days just to return your email (which she's very upfront about), so if you're in a rush, I'd say don't bother. -

A+ service all the way!
They took care of EVERYTHING.
I have NEVER heard people compliment wedding food as much as they did at our wedding!!! NOONE could believe how incredibly delicious and beautiful EVERYTHING was!!
They were impeccably organized, graceful, elegant, personable, reasonably priced, treated us and our guests graciously, and were all around fantastic.
The food was beautifully prepared and one of my all time favorite and best meals of my life!
Could not recommend them more highly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CUPCAKES:
'snice

THE. BEST. CUPCAKES. EVER!
And vegan! (even the heartiest carnivores could not believe how delicious they were! and got seconds!)
These cupcakes have been our faves ever since 'snice opened. As soon as we got engaged we knew we had to have them at our wedding. Sarah (the chef) was SO helpful and accommodating with flavors, amounts, etc!
They were PERFECT!
USE THEM!!!
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER:
Joshua Zuckerman
http://www.jzweddings.com/
LOOK NO FURTHER THAN JOSH!
really. he was OUTSTANDING in EVERY way (you might want to grab a sandwich as there are MANY aspects of his fantasticness and i promise to not holdback my opinions.)
Being a photographer myself, i had looked at well over 200 photographers and his work always stood out ahead of the pack as dynamic, alive, fresh and new. I'd seen SO much 'wedding shlock' (slightly overexposed bouquets, over vignetted cliches, and just the same.... exact..... tone...... for ALL the weddings even though they were clearly very very different... i called them the 'acme wedding photographers') less expensive perhaps but nowhere near as creative, interesting, stunning, emotional and capturing as josh's work.
josh has an incredible ease and talent (genius? i sometimes fear that term is overused but in this case, it's truly well well deserved) and has an incredible eye and knack to capture the moment and then take it to an even better place beautifully, naturally, creatively, with a sense of humour and fun to it. none of his images looked fake or overdone... just fantastic, compelling and with a deep true soul to them.
We had narrowed down my search (as i was in charge of finding the photographer) and finally, after several months of research (really, crazy but true) ended up meeting with three.
we met Josh last.
he immediately made us feel at ease. he's very laidback, knows his stuff inside and out and was just so open and nice and wonderful and solid (and funny) i just knew he was 'the one'. he let his work (which is so awesome!) speak for itself and truly took the time to let us get to know him openly and naturally.
On "The Day" there were absolutely no shortcomings whatsoever. He was phenomenal. In fact, i could not imagine our wedding without him. Our wedding (and yes I'm completely bias) was incredible and i really really really think that so much of that had to do with josh. he always made us feel comfortable. he was on time. beyond prepared. had such a great easy vibe/energy (which may sound super west coast of me to say but it is SO IMPORTANT to feel comfortable and it is SO EASY for that day to be a giant hot mess that it is CRUCIAL to feel at ease and know that you're in good hands THROUGHOUT it!) Josh took in the ever changing moods of the day with grace and ease and always kept it open and fun. Never forced or invasive.
We never felt judged, embarrassed, self conscious at any moment. And my fiance (who is very very shy) also always felt comfortable and entirely open around him and, as did i, trusted him implicitly. If josh had told us to lie down in the middle of the road we probably would as we knew it would have been a crazily amazing shot and we would have had a great time doing it.
it was so exciting and wonderful to have him there.
in fact, it seemed that he was magically always there yet completely unobtrusive at the same time (so many of our wedding guests commented on how unobtrusive he was). He made everything better.
DJ!:
DJ GAZA (aka: Gary Hoffman)
http://djgaza.com/
I would recommend Gary (aka dj gaza) 10000000%!!!
he was incredible!
Outstandingly professional, prepared, organized, NICE, considerate, polite, sweet, knowledgable, not 'your cliché sleazy wedding dj' and all around awesome.
Incredibly reasonably priced and worth every penny.
He really is the king of wedding DJs and could dj ANY type of wedding with style and with class.
Our wedding was this in April 2009 and could not have imagined our wedding without hiring Gary. He made our night over the top special and amazing!
Things went exactly as prepared (he even showed up earlier than neccessary) and he was ALWAYS unbelievably organized, kind, and incredibly respectful of both us and our guests. He was not invasive, intrusive or loud. Just respectful, gracious, well dressed and well mannered and more than any of that, knew how to get the party started and keep it rolling all night long!
He could read the crowd and the mood instinctually and knew how to accommodate the moment perfectly.
He played all the songs we had requested, and at the perfect time. He was elegant and cool and laidback and easy and FUN and just all around SPECTACULAR!
You couldn't be luckier than to have him dj your wedding.
We've even thought about getting married all over just to get to work with him again!!
FLOWERS:

A+++++++++
Phoebe was UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING!
She stayed within our (very small) budget and gave us the most beautiful flowers imaginable.
We wanted to keep things very simple but gorgeous and elegant. All white. Peonies and freesias and Phoebe was just phenomenal. She worked with (and stayed within!) our budget and did so beautifully. We were SO HAPPY with her!!!
Her style and taste is impeccable and she is so wonderful to work with too!
Lovely, easy, accommodating and all around awesome!
BOOK HER NOW!!
INVITATIONS:
LION IN THE SUN!
http://lioninthesunps.com/
They were very helpful (and a bit pricey but definitely worth it.) We went with a tri-fold to keep everything on one page (staying both economical and ecological) and they were terrific!
We got to design our invites and they were patient and helpful and when we got our invites back with an error they were beyond gracious about fixing it immediately and with no charge. Would highly recommend.
DRESS:
craigslist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
REHEARSAL DINNER:
Scottadito
788A Union St.
Brooklyn, NY 11215
718.636.4800
We had 20 people and were able to use their super cool "wine cellar" room to house us all and give us enough room to walk through the ceremony! it was intimate and private and we could be as loud or quiet as we wished!
They had a "banquet and event" menu with different prices and even though we chose the lower priced options, the food (and service) was beyond plentiful and amazing!!!
They were a bit 'challenging' to get in touch with (I believe their management was changing hands at the time) but it was certainly well worth it!
(for the record we had also looked at Convivium Osteria at 68th 5th ave which looked AMAZING. The woman there (Michelle) was fantastic and we wished that we could have afforded to splurge... their room is slightly more intimate and super cool but we just couldn't afford them. But those who can should definitely look them up!)
Feel free to PM me with any further questions!
Good luck everyone! -
Pictures or didn't happen

Congratulations and glad you had a wonderful day! -
So, I got my dress and had my first fitting. This is the first time I saw my actual dress, since the one I tried was a sample.
I have a question about raw silk- the sample has the obvious lines in it typical of raw silk. MY dress, however doesn't have nearly as many. In fact, the seamstress and I were going over it, looking REAL closely and finding the lines here and there. Needless to say, this is not what I was expecting- one of my favorite parts of the dress was that raw silk look with all the lines in it.
So, I guess my question is this- is this in fact raw silk or an impostor? Can raw silk have only a few lines here and there and not throughout?
Thanks all- wedding is quickly approaching and I'm in the typical freaking out mode.... -
thought i would just chime in since i am also a 'bridelyinian" newly engaged with no date set yet. if there are others of you out there, abigail kirsch just opened a new space in the brooklyn navy yard at steiner studios in williamsburg. FH and i are going to check it out on saturday. BAM rents out the bamcafe space for weddings, which we will check out on Tuesday. Trying to find a brooklyn wedding venue that is not big tacky catering hall has been quite an undertaking.
and if any of you are reading this and hoping to be engaged soon...don't hate but the E-Z Pawn store on 5th avenue in the 40s has a really big selection of nice jewelry. my whole family was quite impressed, to the point where my mom is taking my dad there for her next birthday present. i got a $3,000+ ring originally from Tiffany's for $400! and yes it's a real diamond
Modell's is a pawnshop on atlantic avenue that only does jewelry and they often have a nice selection as well. if you shop alone, no one has to know. -
