gosh, this conversation has become just the thing to read before eating
-
. rabbit or parrot.

A hawk in the park gave me half a dead bunny once. He swooped down next to where I was walking, looked me right in the eye, deposited the partial bunny on the ground, and took off again. I didn't know whether to feel flattered or disgusted. It was the tail end.

This was the greatest story ever told.
joehill you did a great job conveying the events to us in a dramatic and intriguing fashion. The pacing was well executed, especially at the twist with the cat coming into the picture.
For next time that something like this happens I have a suggestion. Two words: camera phone. -

. I hope it wasn't the easter bunny. -
this is terrible why would you stand there and do nothing if the hawk was to attack you why didn't it attack the cat and all you guys stand there and say its ok it the food chain so if you was getting attack by a dog we should says its ok it's part of the food chain. if a baby gets attack by a animal we just stand there and do nothing it's a life you could of saved but didn't cause you were a coward shame on you all.

That parrot was dead the second it was speared. Nothing but nothing survives getting talons inserted into its neck, much less a body that size. This is what predators do. The parrot eats insects and chicks alive, the hawk skewers the parrot. All in the grand things of the majestic Pyramid of Life.

i'm sure the OP will make sure the hawk and cat both get brochures explaining the Moral and Health Benefits of the Vegan Lifestyle.

Joe,
I can't believe people are calling you out for not getting in the middle of a hawk and an intrusive species, as beautiful as they may be. Great story, by the way, and you're lucky you got to see it. People, in his own way he let nature take its course. -
And people wonder why everyone outside Park Slope hate them.
 -
nobody hates me.

I do!! They creep me out. Granted, I would kick the teeth out of anyone I saw abusing one, but generally, I think they're rats with wings.

to the dolt that thinks these things means someone would therefore enjoy watching your pet horse die , NO
it simply means if I saw it being attacked by both a grizzly bear and a pack of wolves i would NOT get involved.
I only hope that if i actually witnessed this ,
that i could relay the story as well as op.
im sure theres a shark attacking a seal somewhere
why dont you go save it and spare the rest of us the rhetoric ? -
^^ Wouldn't know sarcasm if it bit him in the ass.
Why is it that apparently none of you "nature lovers" can get a point across without calling someone a name? -
Anastasia Beaverhausen wrote: Yeah. Nothing like watching an animal die and doing nothing to save it. Congrats. I hope you patted each other on the back, too.
Law of the jungle? I dont see you flying to Africa to stop male lions from killing cubs lol
Seriously, that parrot could have been infected with any number of diseases. Who knows what you would get if it were to bite you. -

Yes. You win. You are all much more in tune with nature than I am. I am humbled by your grasp of how a bird in NYC relates to a fucking lion cub in the fucking outback.
I'll be sure to step aside when I see someone beating their kid. Obviously, this is the "law of the Urban Jungle." -

I can sleep at night celebrating my courage do to nothing, just observe the beauty of the beat down. Better he should take his beating now instead of being corn holed at Rikers later. It is after all the law of the "Urban Jungle" Ta Daaa!
You're right hitokiri, you saved us from a pandemic of Parrot Feva  -
