Cops on Vanderbilt Ave

Does anyone know what was going on tonight on Vanderbilt Ave (thurs)? There were tons of cops at the corner of Vanderbilt and St Marks. Also they were hanging around Build and Bob Laws Sea food joint. It was very mysterious:?: I tried to ask, but didn't get anywhere.

  • They probably heard about the free cookies at Bob Laws.
  • Yeah, I know. Another biker got hit by a fuckin car. I didn't see it happen, but saw the cops tending to her on the sidewalk, and her bike splayed on the curb. She appeared to have only hurt her foot, and was sitting up, alert and talking. I don't know any more details.
  • i also saw these cops coralling a slightly off kilter woman...there were like 6 cops and 15 bystanders surrounding her like a caged rat. right up from soda. not the best way to calm someone down. didn't stick around or care to.
  • I wasn't "off kilter". I just wanted a drink!
  • I saw this! The woman was screaming, "SELLOUT! SELLOUT! SELLOUT!" over and over and over and OVER and over. It was very strange. Half the crowd there was probably just trying to figure out what was up.

We're still talking about the woman that got hit? That's so weird. Geez, maybe she was a bit addled from hitting her head or something. I wonder why she was saying that.
  • I doubt it was the woman who got hit who was yelling like that. It was definitely not an injured-person scream. It was a crazy-person scream. And she kept it up for a while -- I rode all the way up Vanderbilt and I could still hear her.
  • Subject: Stonewall the public and they will lose interest.

I asked the firemen on the scene if another speeder had lost control. They gave me a curt "no" and no other information. What gives with the anti-biker/pedestrian bias? How about stopping speeders and fixing the problem?!
