    I do!

    YAY! Don't cheat, okay??
  • Never, there's no point. I suck at competitive stuff, even if I cheated you'd still win!

Wanna be BFFs? I don't like Carnivore and Whynot anymore.
  • I totes want to be your BFF, Beaverhausen, and not just because you have the cutest mushy faced baby!

WHEW! Because even if O-man was the reason, I'd totally be okay with that. Provided you'd want to puppy-sit.
  • Haha, Oscar would probably be completely disgusted with my younger dog. Ripley (my pit mix) is seriously brain damaged, I don't think she even knows her own name. Every time we have to go up the stairs in my building, she looks at me like, "Wait, what are these? And what do I do again?"

Yeah, no. That totally wouldn't bother Oscar. He'd help her up the stairs, then his fat ass would ask her where she keeps the kibble.

    like stray cats.

i think you should just make a pledge to discontinue responding to my posts caseopele. i find your comments so incredibly negative and argumentative and will respectfully do the same.
Very clever choosing the stray cats to make light of, that whole death thing is such a touchy subject. Still not sure what's so exciting about yet another fruitstand opening, Hunan Wok's employees probably don't get it either.

As for the last part of your post? Probably would have been more effective without the condescension but still not a bad idea. I prefer to read this board without throwing up in my mouth a little.
  • Personally, I am glad that a deli/bodega type place is opening up. It's not just going to be a fruit stand, they will sell other things. And one thing we have lost a lot of in this neighborhood are small local delis that you can go in to just grab some milk or bread. Yes, i know there are still some around, but not nearly as many as there used to be (and while I feel bad that employees at Hunan Wok might have lost their job, I had heard they merged with Mr. Wonton,so, maybe some people are working there now).

I personally would rather have another deli in the area than another Chinese restaurant.

I live about a block down 7th Avenue from the place in the picture. There's already about three other 24hr places like that within a few blocks' walk.

Sorry, but the idea of putting yet another Korean grocer's kids through college by buying their overpriced pyramids of fruit and dusty groceries doesn't really interest me. I've never really understood people who insist on shopping in those places on a regular basis, when one trip to Pathmark instead will save you a good $30-40 dollars a week for the same stuff. How lazy can you be.
  • the pathmark in gowanus? every single time i have gone there the scanners have overcharged me. every. time.

Geez, what a piece of work you are! First of all, what other 24 hour places are there on 7th Avenue? Secondly, WTH said they do the bulk of their shopping at these places or that I 'insist' on shopping there on a regular basis? all i said was it was nice to have a deli in the area after so many have closed up. I don't even know why i am responding to you, you just like to pick fights with people. Thirdly, I don't understand why anyone goes to that Pathmark, but that is just me.

Let's see, there's one right in front of me on Garfield, one up by John Jay (Han's), one on Flatbush (Natural Land), and about a dozen more between 9st and Flatbush that are open until 1-2AM. How many more do you need?

Of course you "don't understand why anyone goes to that Pathmark," because money is obviously not an issue for you if you're willing to pay a $1 or $2 premium on every item in the place just to shop closer to your house. As for those of us who don't like throwing money down the toilet for no reason, we tend like paying sane prices for our groceries.

oh please. i have about $6 to my name and i do my regular shopping at rossman's, costco, c-town. so, i'm absolutely going to walk to the gowanus pathmark if i need a few things and haven't had time or forethought to get them elsewhere; walking 8 city blocks there, then 8 city blocks UPHILL back is absolutely worth the cabbage and carrots i might need to make soup on a blustery frigid day. especially if it's 16 degrees out.

of course the prices aren't sane, but they are convenient.

as for the whole "who has $$", i'll remind you of what my mother always told me, that it's not nice to count other peoples' money.

Umm, you can stop it with the money isn't an issue for me crapola, because it is. I don't shop at that Pathmark because I think it's a crappy store , but I do shop at Key Food on 5th Avenue. I do not do the bulk of my shopping at small stores nor do i go around paying a $1 or $2 premium on things, all i said was that it was nice to have a place to pick up a loaf of bread or a container of milk. If all I need is a loaf of bread or some milk, no, I am not going to go stand online at the supermarket for it.

As for a dozen places between 9th and Flatbush that are open 24 hours-bull! Isn't the one on Flatbush a health food store primarily? And, how late are they open? Also, I think there is a big difference between 7th and union and Flatbush-not exactly close to each other, are they (in terms of wanting to just grab some milk or something)? I live near John Jay. Are you talking about the place on the corner there that has been there for 20 years? Are they 24 hours? Plus, not really near the other place that is soon to be opening now is it?

Besides, what is your big issue with the fact that I made a simple statement saying i was glad to see a new deli open? I don't get why anyone would take such issue with that, did you have stock in Hunan Wok and are pissed they are closed now? or, were you really hoping for another nail salon/real estate/cell phone store??
  • don't even bother longtimesloper. it's not even worth arguing with some of the people on this board. there are some really nasty ones, as you can see.

i'm with you...very happy about the new 24 hour deli opening. will be great to have a place close by me where i can pick up a few odds and ends late night, if need be.

That place is horrible. Dark, dismal, horrible. I went twice and that was one time too many. The cashiers were rude, disgusting and mute, except for gum cracking. I don't care if they were giving groceries away, I would never step foot in that disgusting place again.
  • raw wrote: [quote=LongTimeSloper]^ Definitely not in South Slope. I just googled the image and Hunan Wok was on 7th Avenue between president and Union. So many Chinese places have "Hunan" in the name, it's confusing.
I once had a bad experience at the Hunan Wok place on 7th Avenue near Union Street. The Hunan Wok place claimed to serve "fresh" crabs when I last ate there. The center of my "fresh" crab was frozen like an ice rock. The waiter played dumb. I never returned. Hunan Delight on 6th Avenue near Union Street, on the other hand, has always served me fresh food.

Yes, they had a sign... something like: "In season soft shell crab" hanging in the window ALL year.

Heh, I know what you mean--I also prefer my minimum-wage servants to act grateful that I am gracing their lowly establishment with my business, and, more importantly, my mere presence (I am a Park Sloper, after all).

Seriously though, feel free to continue shopping for $8 loaves of bread and olives at "Union Market." I'll stick with the rest of average working Brooklyn (you know, the hoi polloi) and continue to patronize supermarkets with sane prices. I'll be sure to pass your feedback on to Pathmark though.
  • obamanut, you should do that. when you call corporate and complain they send you $5 in coupons. (fyi, it will come registered mail. you won't know what it is and yu will go to the van brunt PO and wait on the long line. then you will get your five dollars.)
  • for what it's worth, hunan wok was the first chinese restaurant to appear on 7th avenue during the neighborhood's resurgance in the early 1980's.. at the time, it was located next to key food, in the space where a mortgage-lenders office is now located.

Potter, sorry, but that is one of the most hysterical things I've heard in a long time. Thank you for making spit wine on my screen. That Pathmark bites.

For the record, I shopped at 5th Avenue Key Food today, because Fresh Direct had a meltdown. I saved about $10.00 purchasing my exact planned delivery. And spent 40 minutes in checkout. Do the math.

WTF? when are you going to stop blaming every single thing on gentrifying yuppie scum?

You're saying it's okay to be rude and incompetent at your job because prices are "sane".

No kidding. I just did a bunch of yoga, too.

The most ironic thing is that Obama would be disgusted by Obamanut
  • Knock yourself out though. If you can swing Obamanut, I'll buy you both a PBR in the dairy aisle of Pathmark tomorrow. :D

Were they in the Slope that early? I guess Szechwan Delight is the last of the OG Chinese places then unless you count Ruby's. I remember Ding's and Kar being the best.
  • What about Wing Wah? Weren't they here in the early 80s? I know they were here in the mid to late 80s when i arrived.
