Puppy needs a home
Lucy is gorgeous, super affectionate and completely housebroken. She was found wondering the street about 2 weeks ago and needs a home ASAP. She has been staying at a foster home, but they are going on vacation this Saturday. Lucy is about 48 lbs, and a pit mix. She is great with other dogs, cats and kids. She is very playful and will make a great family dog. If you would like to meet her please call me at 718-622-0600.
Thank you

My neighbors, my wife and I were actually the ones that found Lucy, and Vivian has been a huge part of the collective effort to find her a home- we can't thank her enough.
Here are a couple of photos-

More than anything else, we want to find the right home for her. She is a great dog, she's beautiful (the pics are great, but don't do her justice), and she's healthy, so it's conceivable that we'll have multiple offers- in that instance, we might ask you to fill out a rescue/adoption application to ensure that she not only goes to a great home, but to ensure that the home is a good fit as well. -
And yes, my wife and I are animal magnets.

Thank you Bill... Could not figure out how to post her photos. She is even more beutiful in person. Super soft coat, no real shedding. She will be at the store with me this weekend so stop by to meet her.

I fell in love with this sweet dog when I met her last week! IF I didn't already have three animals, I would claim her for my own, but some other lucky family will get the chance. She's a doll. Loves to play.

goddamnit, my apartment doesn't allow pets...........

Any idea how she'd play with other dogs?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go prepare for my wife coming home and killing me. -

She loves to play with other dogs, but she's very alpha. -
She is alpha, but if the dogs shows her who is the boss she quickly falls into the hierachy. We spent saturday evening at my friend's house and she was very submissive to her 12 lbs dog. Daisy showed her who was the boss and she spent the whole night next to me:) She is not food or toy agressive, but would do better at a home with a playful dog. She wants to play.

PM me, I'd love to see her play with my pooch Stereo.

WHAT A SWEETHEART.
We just can't take on another dog, much as we would love to, and Lucy here is exactly what we'd want: boisterous, funny, cute. She responded to me using the big grown-up voice, I'd bet she could turn into a really wonderful animal with some good, consistent training.
Attention all DHers: you want to take this dog home! -
I met Lucy this morning. She is amazing! Friendly and sweet, listened to the woman walking and I saw her approach another dog on the street to play. Her coat is a beautiful silvery brindle.
I would love to take her but I have two obnoxious cats that I can barely handle.
Good Luck Lucy! -

We live in the building where Lucy is being fostered right now. Our two dogs, Deuce and Butter, met Lucy the first day that our neighbors found and rescued her. They both fell in love with her. Our older dog was comfortable enough to make himself 100% vulnerable to her (he laid on his back and she climbed and jumped all over him), which he does with few other dogs. And her and Deuce chased each other around like crazy. They all played great together, and this was at a time when she was pretty wound up and confused about what was going on.
Since that time, they've gone on many walks together. She is always excited to see them both -- and they are excited to see her -- though her main concern seems to be making sure she pleases her foster dad and keeping any person with her in her sight. She is really amazing, and her foster parents are really training her amazingly well already.
Obviously, she can't go off-leash in Prospect Park yet, but we can always set up a play-date somewhere else if anyone wants to play with her...(Stereo, I think Deuce and Butter have met you a few times coming in and out of Prospect Park....). As we all know, not only do all our dogs love to socialize, but it's so great for them.
Anyway, all the great things posted about Lucy are not a lie. She is beautiful SWEET and kind. Any family would be benefit from her love and energy. -
Nikki is being very modest about her role and her husband's role in caring for Lucy- it's not easy to find a good, responsible home for a pit bull, and I don't think that Lucy would have made it this far without the tremendous amount of help from everybody involved. That being said, everything that Nikki said about Lucy is dead on.
For an update-
Lucy was just spayed yesterday, she's a little sore and a little slow, but she's doing well. I think that this is going to take some of that puppy exuberance out of her! Don't get me wrong, she's still going to be plenty playful, she'll just be a little easier to control. And in this instance, I think that a little less humping is a good thing!
She really has come along nicely as far as discipline is concerned. She's a bit of a booger, in that she likes to test boundaries; she likes to see what you'll let her get away with. We've been pretty firm with her, as have the previous fosters, and she's SO much better about begging at the table, barking, jumping up, etc. Given a little more work, I think that it'll be eliminated almost entirely in situations when the behavior isn't appropriate (she is quite the guard dog, so I allow her a warning 'woof' when she hears noises at the door, etc).
She's pretty good on the leash, and she's gettin' better. We need to work on her dealing with distractions a little better, but she's not bad at all. She gets excited, but not uncontrollable, when she sees potential playmates.
Overall, I think that the biggest factor in her progress, her continued development, and desirability is (as Nikki said) her desire to make her master(s) happy. For non dog owners, this may sound stupid, but when you... reach an understanding with her, she really aims to please. -
gosh, I wish I had a normal-people job.

I wish I had another room, so I could take her home. The room would have to be filled with non-destructible things, of course. (Lucy is a sweet animal, but she's not getting near my leather chair.)
I do recall meeting Deuce and Butter! If you see Stereo (red collar, brindle legs, white blaze on front, pit at the head and maybe greyhound in back, he's kind of an El Camino of dogs) I'd love to get a face to another neighborhood dog-owning DHer. -

She's actually been really gentle on the furniture! I was expecting that she would just be a friggin' wrecking ball, but she's caused almost zero damage in our apartment... She'd like to climb on the couch and chairs, but we told her not to, so she doesn't... and she's shown no inclination for chewing on anything other than her toys/bones/hoof. The only thing that she's done thus far is scratch up a door a little bit. We're keeping our cats on the other side of the apartment, and she was a little curious about 'em... curious enough to open the door to see what was going on. Yeah, if you have levers instead of knobs, she'll stand up and open 'em... to her credit, she hasn't tried again since she found out that I'm not exactly happy with her opening doors.

And it's hard to forget Deuce and Butter! With the two of them and Lucy walking together, I tell ya, peds part like the Red Sea...
Oh, and if any of ya should see Lucy being walked by a ne'er-do-well, it's probably me!
Feel free to introduce yourselves- I'm a curmudgeon, but Lucy likes to socialize. -

She's doing really well- she has most of her pre-spay energy back.
We had guests over for brunch on Saturday and Sunday- the attention hog that she is, she loved every minute of it. She does seem like she's losing some of what I would take for insecurity- she doesn't need attention every second anymore.
She also went to the park with Deuce and Butter on Saturday. She gets SO excited by other dogs that we're guessing that she hadn't had that much interaction with them before. She's not well mannered enough to be off leash just yet, but I think that the experience still helped quite a bit. By the time that we were walking out of the park, she was able to pleasantly greet the other dogs without feeling the need to romp around with each and every one, right then and there. Overall, I get the feeling that this very affectionate pup spent a lot of time isolated wherever she was before she found us. I've gotta believe that she'll become a better and better companion with more socialization.
Oh, she's also eating well. She seems to have some food issues (only eats in her kennel or out of your hand, very active beggar when people are eating), but she's doing better. Her ribs and muscles aren't quite as clearly defined as they were a couple weeks ago, and that's a good thing...
As far as a permanent home, there's been some flirting, but nothing very serious, so she's still very much available to the right home. -
Subject: Lucy Update
Just wanted to add a little bit on Lucy...
We've taken her to the enclosed dog park at Brooklyn Heights about 3-4 times now (with Butter and Deuce). She's done great each time. She makes quite an entrance with her enthusiasm. Then, she just loves playing. She'll chase whoever is running, then, when she catches them, just kind of say "hi" and goes on to the next runner. She's had a few great games of chase with some other fast runners, big and small dogs included. If a dog is playing fetch, she loves to do a modified version of joining in. She'll watch the person throwing the stick/ball, then run with the dog going to fetch. She'll never try to take the item herself, but just watches eagerly to make sure the other dog is doing what it is supposed to do (pick up the treasure!) and then eagerly runs back alongside the other dog to watch the process all over again. Aside from any human that is helping with the fetch game, she largely ignores people at the dog park in favor of dogs. She's started to keep her eye on my husband and I just a little, but she is much more focused on PLAYING.
She wrestles really appropriately with the dogs who initiate that play, and is really great with the other puppies who have 1/10 of her strength. All in all, she just loves playing. She never causes any problems. However, she does like to go 'correct' any dogs who seem to be in a little scuffle, but she's not alone in that regard and does no harm.
We've had a number of people the dog park ask about her and show interest. We're hoping one turns into reality. Meanwhile, we know each trip is really great for her. So if you see 2 people packed into a little hybrid civic on the weekends, with three dogs in tow (one in the front seat!), try to label us good samaritians instead of crazy dog people. We do get lots of strange looks:)
