  • Now if someone would just tow my car while getting shot, the universe would align.
  • With the bad economy, I suspect you'll see more Yuppie on Yuppie crime. I heard it was a tif over a bottle of La Cardonne Medoc '98 that had gone bad. A shame really, that was a good year.
  • You tell us, KWAK. What IS going on?
  • Kwak, you at least getting overtime out of all this?
  • this woke me up last night, i live basically across the street from where this took place. i was half asleep with the tv on, i heard someone walking on the sidewalk below talking, nothing i could make out, didn't seem like an altercation or argument or anything....then we heard the shots. by the time we looked out the window the only thing we saw was the guy laying there and we called 911. the police came over and took statements this morning. :/

not more than 2 months ago that 15 year old was killed in front of his building down the street on kingston and herkimer too.
  • and actually i think it happened a little earlier, round 2:50ish. the police/ambulance took a little more than ten minutes to arrive. one ambulance and a cop car drove by the scene and completely passed it while we were on the phone with 911...
  • With the economy the way it is, people will become more and more desperate. Even those not directly effected by the economy; theres this sense of hopelessness created by the media. With the NYC Police Dept having 5000 less officers than in 2001, I think we'll be seeing alot of the Quality of life issues of the 90's along with violent Crime returning to our streets.

    Great news!
  • I haven't smoked pot in a park since the 90s, now I have a reason!
  • These last couple of shootings seem like business, rather than personal shit (I could be talking out of my ass though).

New crew moving in? Is there a dope drought going on that's driving prices up, hence increased violence?
  • Nobody even mentioned mentioned the Tues shooting at Sterling & Schenectady. Male "victim" was beaten by a group of 5-6 males inside of a bodega. At the completion of the stomping/punching and kicking a shot rang out and the group fled the store.

Why did I put quotes around the victim you ask. Let's just say that he wasn't an innocent bystander. There are certain occupations that put you at a risk of being killed...His is one of them...and he's obviously not a police officer.
  • In addition, the drug dealer's union contract does not provide good workmen's comp or life insurance. ...which makes drug dealing a foolish choice.

Cops at least get good contracts out of the deal.

And I was starting to feel left out of all these shootings. It's great to hear there was one at a corner I walk by every day.
  • I know that if I need a dose of good, old fashioned paranoia, I can always count on Brooklynian. Thanks, guys!

Actually, I heard it had to do with one bearded skinny jeans dude messing with another bearded skinny jeans dude's girlfriend. Something about her leaving because his parents rent and barhopping fund for him dried up? She left with his Macbook. Anyway, someone spotted a bearded skinny jeans dude fleeing from the scene on an antique bicycle listening to an iPod.

Are you going to organize the official Brooklynian "Blunts and 40s in the Park" outing?

A fine idea. Can everyone wait until Spring?

KWAC and Paraderest are invited only if they promise they are off duty. (sometimes the best stuff never gets vouchered...)

    That is so funny!
  • Damn! There are some funny responses.., but still seriously.., God damn!!

Thank God I can pass as an old timer, and not a blipster people like to say I am. But will that even save me when the going gets tough!!!
  • Hey Obamanut...I'm thinking the weapon doesn't match the suspect. Bearded, antique bike-riding, skinnypant's weapon of choice is either a retro weapon (circa 18th century perhaps?) or one of those cigarette lighters that looks like a gun. I don't think he did it.

  • Hmmm...I was talking home a little after 2am from Starlite Lounge on Nostrand and I live a block from the crime scene. I didn't hear gunshots though. Did the vic survive?

Pwaltman-- The link above is to the NYtimes story about the shooting you listed. This one did make the newspaper. Very sad. Young girl,17, shot dead at a party.
  • God Dog. I was thinking about visiting this part of brooklyn to get some jerk and check out the street scene on my trip to nyc this fall. I guess I should confine my hanging out to manhattan and williamburg.

the rest of us are fine. We do our laundry, go shopping, etc. Stray bullets are very rare.

Bullets for drug dealers, ex girl friends, store keepers, landlords, etc. are -sadly- more frequent.

Besides, we have really good jerk chicken.

....if you only read the crime page, you think the world is all crime.

If you are the school principal, the only kids you likely know are the ones you suspend and give awards to.
