Half Closed for Re-Staffing

i heard at first, through reliable sources, that the main (newish) cook had moved on for a much better deal and that the bartenders couldn't support themselves on the bev-only commerce, so they were hoping to close until management could find a cook. then, i heard today, through less-reliable sources, that when this idea of insufficient commerce/income to justify a day's work was brought to the attention of the management, the management opted to clean-house all around.
i really hope this is heresay, because i really thought a few of the staffers were excellent and i much enjoyed the vibe at that place as an alternative to the noisier places in the 'nabe. however, i'll never support a business that treats people that way. -
they've been treating people that way since they opened. they've 'cleaned house' many times, generally to their detriment. it's unfortunate, as it is a viable business (perhaps not with that absurd layout, but whatever). I really miss the old vibe there. oh well.

You guys are incredible. I walked by at 4 pm and thought it was odd to see the gate down... didn't have time to cross the street and check it out!
Sorry to speak about it as if it's already gone, but I really regret not making more use of the Half space. There are a lot of seemingly legitimate complaints about Half... but with the rampant "upscaling" going on right now, I think we'll soon be pining for the good old days of Vanderbilt Avenue. -
The place advertised itself as a "lifestyle store." Ergo, I never went.
-
Same for me as above -- if they had focused on being a really great, laid-back wine bar and notr tried to be 'lifestyle' I might've gone more often.
Then again, Sepia is less than 300 yards from my front door, and it has turned into my auxiliary living room / office. -
I'm a fan of the product, but always thought the service was pretty lousy. Slow and they just always seem to be out of stuff. It just seems badly managed.
-
I've never had a bad time there and the food was great.

hi pete c,
Then again, Sepia is less than 300 yards from my front door, and it has turned into my auxiliary living room / office.
is sepia a good place to get work done? i usually bring mine to half, soda, or beast, but wouldn't mind a new haunt. do they have wifi? any type of food? i went when they first opened and liked the vibe (and the tamari roasted almonds) a lot.
thanks, in advance -
I heard from one of my many nabe sources that Half didn't even bother to inform their (former) employees about the restaffing. they allowed them to find out from the nice sign. pleasant, eh?
-
So, are they going to reopen?

Someone point me to the post that talks about why Bistro St. Marks is closed...? Is it remodeling? -

Bistro St. Marks went out and now has a new owner. Don't know what is being done inside the space but my guess is another restaurant is coming.
