  • I'm slowly becoming a regular at BCC now. Mondays with Tom and Frank are awesome.

ive played at tommys tavern a few times its quite nice durin the happy hour
Tommy's wins. Off With Their Heads played there a few months back, those dudes rule. I'd like to play a show or 9 at Tommy's.
  • you ever been to black betty over on havemeyer and metropolitian??

if you dont have a full band, which we didnt tonight, its kind of a really awesome place to play... im well drunk and had a swell time
  • That would be a negative on ever goin to Black Betty but I've walked past it about 9-10million times en route from Levee to Bushwick Country Club. I'll make it in one day. I need to get at least one of my bands playin some damn shows again. Preferably the one that usually gets too drunk to even make it through an entire song at rehearsal, then again that's the idea behind that band

its a really small stage, and small room so if you were to bring a drumset in there youd probably break peoples ear drums, all the times weve played there we used a drum machine so as not to cause bloody ears...

but the drink tickets are a plenty and the 30 or so people we brought made the room looked packed, and the bathrooms are the nicest bathrooms ive come across in williamsburg.

I do like me some drink tickets, especially in the quantity of "a plenty". Luckily our drummer is out of town a lot so a little acoustic/electric (i needs my leads) would be fun to play there. As long as people are up for a buncha jerks gettin drunk as hell and covering a buncha macho country songs and a few of our own numbers written from an extreme conservative viewpoint.
  • Those are some nice bathrooms at Black Betty. My only problem with the place is the narrow room the bar and tables make when it gets crowded. It's a nightmare trying to get through or a drink.
  • i never really had too much trouble!
  • I must investigate Black Betty. What kinda beerses they got/they cheap?
  • They have a decent bottled beer selection, prices are reasonable but not especially cheap. Unless things have changed since I was last there (sometime during the summer I think), the bargain basement is Miller cans for $3. In bottles, my choice would be Presidente for $4, then they had a few others for $4-$5 and Chimay for $7 if you have the high end taste.
  • I do enjoy higher end beers but current financial situations makes that only happen here and there (haven't had a good IPA in who knows how long). $3 Miller cans it is!
  • has any buddy been assaulted by the walking tuba band?? its like a dude with a snare drum, some dude with a tuba, some dude with a trumpet, and a singer...
and they just come in and start playing... they came into black betty when we were done playing we didnt know what the fuck was going on... very confusing...
  • Yep, have encountered them a couple of times. They are, in fact, the Stumblebum Brass Band:

They do have a happy hour, but I've never been there early so I don't know when that it. And of course there are plenty of places where you can have a good IPA for $3 during happy hour if you can get out that early. Just had a Lagunitas IPA, one of my personal favorites, the other night at Coco66 with that price tag. Happy Hour there goes til 9. Boulevard Tavern on Meeker is another good choice with a good selection and the same "hour" in effect.

I have a hard time getting anywhere that stops at 8 in time. I'm more likely to be out drinking at 3 am than at 8 pm.
  • Yea that's usually my case as well. I work in NJ til, well whenever the hell I can get outta the office so the earliest I'm back in the area is 8. Uber drag. Boulevard Tavern is around the corner from my house, i love that place. Especially when they have the $5 all you can eat BBQ goin on. Great place to either start off the night, kill off the night, or just spent the night. And their $3 pints of Boulevard house beer is pretty damn good as well.
  • rtraindweller wrote: Especially when they have the $5 all you can eat BBQ goin on.
Yeah! But I have to admit I don't take advantage of it as often as I did when it was $3 until a couple of years ago. Because while a $5 meal isn't bad, there are other places where I can eat for that... but a $3 meal is hard to match, and used to have me there all the time. Of course then I'd spend another $15 to $20 on drinks, but I would have done that somewhere anyway.
  • $5 really aint the worst, esp considering it all you can eat. Start it off with a burger, dog and corn. Then a few hours/beers later when yer cravin' something, you can just go back for more. Harold is a master of that grill. And I heard the tater tots are back!
  • Oh yeah, I'm not complaining about the price, just saying that at $3 it was impossible to beat. Boulevard's a little out of the way for me, but a good $3 meal along with good beer would draw me out more often... now at $5, while it's still a deal, other more conveniently located options are competitive.

And yeah, corn's on the summer menu. Tater tots are back. I just ate there last week.

Harold's not just a master of the grill, he's way cool all around. If you're interested in Coney Island history and haven't talked to him about his family background, by the way, be sure to do so!
  • I'm gonna haveta swing over and get my tots on. The tots are the only thing that can lure me into going to Trash Bar ($4 PBR, fuckin kidding me...). I can assume the tots at Boulevard are great?
  • ... and if you want to, ask Harold to put cheese on them. Try that at Trash!

Not my thing, btw, to me it takes away too much of the crunch, but it is an option.
  • Always worth a shot. Cheese + anything totally wins. But i hear ya on the crunch. It's half the tater tot experience.

I hear ya. If I didn't have to be somewhere else tonight by the time the kitchen will be open, I'd go to Boulevard tonight for some. Maybe tomorrow night; don't think I have anything going on so far.
