Breakfast in park slope

5th Avenue Diner? Too bad, I was actually going to suggest that place. If you can muster the courage to try it again it might be worth a shot.
-
Flux.. I get you would need a little courage to try that diner again. I think many of us have had that experience where even if you were on the Karmic schedule to get sick and it has nothing to do with the last meal you had before you are overtaken... you don't want to eat that same food again or in the same restaurant again.
Perhaps try Daisy diner on 5th ave bewteen 9th and 10th st. -
veets - The thing is both my wife and I got sick that night. if it was just me I would have thought of other possible causes...but because it was both of us then its most likely due to that dinner food.
funny thing is that i left them a large tip when we finished. $20 tip on a $16 meal....and we both get really sick.
ill try daisy's.....i was never there before. thanks
-
I get it Flux... In this case you did have proof positive it was the food.
I live around the corner from Daisy and eaten there many times. the snow has stopped and it is warmer than yesterday so a diner breakfast sounds nice.. especially if you pick up the NYTimes and linger over breakfast.. they do refill coffee at no charge..lol! -
Was it 5th Avenue Diner or Daisey's that you went to?
-
I just got back from 5th Ave Key Food and made a point to look for Daisey's. I can't believe I missed it all of these years. I'm usually pretty aware of my surroundings

Did you find it Flexi?

Yes. Now I need to check it out. -
I like Park Cafe and 7th Ave Donuts myself. They seem to be the only ones who make grilled bacon to order. Other than that Junior's in downtown.

Dizzy's, 9 st & 8 ave.
Purity 8 st 7 ave -
Stone Park Cafe - no unlimited mimosa deal or anything but the food is really good and when the weather is nice it has that outdoor section that overlooks the park. It's a little pricey so I don't go often but I'm a big fan. Also I read somewhere that the owners grew up in the neighborhood so I also kinda like supporting that...

Flexi you do need to check it out!
Definitely not gourmet fancy food but whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner this place is fresh food, basic, well seasoned and reasonaly priced.
And if you time it when Bingo lets out you will see the array of real BROOKLYN people that makes me forget I live in PS in 2009 and brings me right back to 1980 when I moved in. -
For what it's worth, I have eaten multiple times at both Daisy's and 5th Avenue, and the latter wins, hands down. But I do understand that having a bad personal experience changes things.
-
dixi...it was not a simple bad personal experience. Its not as though the waiter was rude. I actually had food poisoning. And it was not just me, my wife had the same thing happen to her....so its no longer personal. maybe if was a fluke batch of food, but after that experience I can never convince my wife to give it another chance. she had to call in sick the next day.
we ended up going to some place on the corner of 7th and 4th st. we (my wife and sister) had brunch. i felt like a fish out of water. men don't have "brunch". there was one other guy in a sea of women Maybe that's not so bad. -
Subject: Same sort of experience for us
Both my partner and myself also got very sick after eating there. We
know the owner fairly well and some of the waitstaff as well. The first
time, I thought it was due perhaps to the oil they use. However, it
has happend more than once and so now, we have just given up
"eating" there aside from just a coffee, roll or muffin. Nice place,
nice people but something's clearly up somewhere. -

Right. Not at all trying to minimize your experience by using the term "personal." I probably wouldn't go back to a place that made me sick even if it was a really good special restaurant, let alone some neighborhood diner, so I understand. I just really like the place.
