Carl's Place on Underhill
Subject: Carl's Place on Underhill
I have been to Carl's Place on Underhill between St. Johns & Eastern Parkway 3 times and it is a very good place to go for Caribbean food. It does also have hamburgers and other non-Caribbean items. They are friendly, the food is great. I had the jerk-chicken and the curry goat and both were great. The prices are exceptionally reasonable. I recommend it highly. They also have jazz on Friday nights.

Yeah, my gynocologist loves that place.

I took out lunch from Carl's the other day. I got the curry chicken and rice and peas. The rice and peas were very good, but the curry chicken was a little bland (although I may be spoiled because I work near Church Avenue).

Isa, that's some plug for Carl's Place. Maybe your gynecologist should have his/her own "best of" list?

So Carl's Place was closed early tonight. Those of us at Happy Hour tonight heard a rumor that the place may not be opening again (as in ever). Has anyone heard anything to substantiate or refute this rumor?
Isa, maybe your gynecologist might know? -
I was in there in like November and overheard the woman who runs it/owns the building talking about how she wouldn't rent it to someone unless she felt they had a solid plan. I sort of caught the middle to the end of the conversation and I was definitely eavesdropping, but it sounded to me like she didn't intend to keep it open past January.

Maybe Sepia could expand and become a full-service restaurant a la Tavern on Dean.

I liked the place in general. The guys who ran it seemed nice. Although I never noticed much "through-put" as they say. Once, I got pretty sick after I ate what I believe to have been some bad shrimp there. I'm sure that was an anomaly, though.
